El boxeador puertorriqueño José 'Sniper' Pedraza (19-0-0-12 nocauts) se convirtió en el retador número 1 al título mundial superpluma de la Federación Internacional de Boxeo (F.I.B.) - en poder del cubano Rances Barthelemy - cuando derrotara por decisión unánime al filipino Michael Farenas. El pleito se llevó a cabo el pasado viernes 14 de noviembre en el Coliseo 'Pedrín Zorrilla' de Hato Rey Puerto Rico.
Luego del triunfo obtenido, se espera que el boricua esté disputando la faja universal en los primeros meses del 2015. Conversando con 'Sniper' Pedraza, éste se mostró complacido con su desempeño ante Farenas, además de hablar sobre sus planes para el año entrante.
José, ¿qué nos puedes decir sobre la riña que efectuaste ante Michael Farenas?
"Primero que nada, gracias por la oportunidad. Me siento super contento, orgulloso, muy agradecido por la fanaticada, mi entrenador, mi familia y por todo el apoyo que me han dado".
Luego de dicho encuentro, ¿qué es lo próximo?
"Lo próximo va ser la oportunidad de pelear por el título mundial, ya que es un combate mandatario porque la pelea que hice con Michael Farenas era una eliminatoria para pelear con el campeón que es Rances Barthelemy".
¿Tienes conocimiento si se han iniciado las negociaciones para dicho pleito?
"Negociaciones así como tal no han surgido, solamente lo único que se ha dicho es que la pelea sería no más tardar de abril. Espero que sea antes, se está negociando la fecha exacta, el lugar y se está tratando de negociar que se haga en Nueva York. Espero que sea en Nueva York y mucho antes de abril".
¿Vas a pedir que el pleito se realice en Puerto Rico?
"Si se logra hacer en Puerto Rico sería espléndido, genial, pero todo estará en los acuerdos que se lleguen en la negociación".
¿Te intimida el poder enfrentar al campeón mundial Rances Barthelemy?
"Para nada, es campeón, se ha ganado el puesto, pero no intimida para nada. Él es un boxeador igual que yo, es bueno, yo también soy bueno, tengo mucha calidad. Yo digo que va ser un buen combate, pero no intimida para nada. Sé que voy a ir bien preparado, yo sé que al igual él, pero no hay por qué intimidar".
¿Sientes que estás listo para retarlo?
"Claro, definitivamente. Lo demostramos en esta pelea que hicimos con Michael Farenas. Estamos más que listo, super preparado para pelear no sólo con Rancey Barthelemy sino con cualquier otro campeón. Obviamente, esto es paso a paso, pero primero hay que pasar a Rances Barthelemy y luego los retos por venir".
¿Alguna vez pelearon cuando ambos eran aficionados?
"No, nunca. Él era de un ciclo antes que yo, pero nunca tuve la oportunidad de pelear con él".
¿Cómo le pelearías a un boxeador polifacético como Barthelemy?
"Él es un boxeador bien técnico, que sabe mucho de la técnica del boxeo. Usa bien su distancia, pero yo digo que con un poco de presión sería lo favorable, el estilo que incomoda".
Para ir haciendo 'embocadura' (como decimos los boricuas), ¿qué mensaje tienes para él?
"Simplemente que vaya bien preparado. Que se acuerde que él es el campeón y no quiere perder su puesto, y todo el mundo va ir bien preparado para tomar ese puesto, y yo soy uno. En este caso voy a tener la oportunidad de pelear por el título y que voy a ir bien preparado como siempre lo he hecho. Que se prepare bien porque va ser un gran combate, no va ser nada fácil para enfrentarme".
