'Quiero enfrentarme otra vez con Margarito'

Martinez- ¿Si tu podrías tener una de tus peleas previas a cual regresar, cuál sería y por qué? En tus últimas peleas, terminaste muy fuerte pero parecías empezar lento o requerías algunos ajustes. ¿Calculaste mal a tus oponentes, o hay otras explicaciones?

La pelea que me gustaría hacer de vuelta es la de Antonio Margarito que fue en febrero de 2000 en el Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Me noqueó en la séptima ronda y esa es la única pelea que creo que verdaderamente perdí. También, era un cachorro en comparación con lo que soy hoy y Margarito era un peleador experimentado a ese punto. Para esa pérdida particular mi bolsa de boxeo era $800 dólares. Yo no me había desarrollado bien como un peleador y no tenía a mis entrenadores Gabriel Sarmiento y Pablo Sarmiento conmigo, entonces peleaba diferente en ese tiempo en mi carrera. Creo que si Antonio Margarito y yo hubiéramos peleado otra vez, mas tarde, en mi carrera, hubiera sido un resultado diferente. En mi mente sería similar a la pelea de Pacquiao-Magarito donde Margarito se vino de avance y la velocidad de Pacquaio es lo que finalmente venció a Margarito.

En la pelea de Barker me lastimé mi codo izquierdo en el campo de entrenamiento cuatro días antes de ese encuentro y estaba peleando con una sola mano la pelea entera. Si ustedes ven la cinta de la pelea, verán que en la mayoría lancé puñetazos con un brazo. Creo que si no hubiera sostenido esa lesión justo antes de la pelea, el noqueo hubiera llegado mucho antes.

En la pelea de Matthew Macklin, yo esperaba que Macklin avanzara como lo ha hecho en el pasado y entrenamos para eso. Pero en esta pelea particular Macklin llegó con un plan de juego diferente y empezó a boxear, era diferente de lo que teníamos planeado pero ajustamos a su plan y empezamos a desgastarlo lentamente hasta el noqueo al final de la pelea.

Pues creo que Maravilla no necesita a Margarito. En la actualidad Margarito se encuentra inactivo y con secuelas de la contienda ante Manny; asi que sería una pelea fácil y absurda para Martínez. Le recomendaría la revancha inmediata vs Chávez junior, pero me acabo de enterar que posiblemente dió positivo(marigüana) en el antidoping hecho después de la pelea vs Maravilla. Asi que Sergio Gabriel "Maravilla" Martínez, te recomiendo que voltees hacia otro lado ó hacia arriba y no boxees vs drogadictos y tramposos. Lamentable no?.
