Joseph Guardiola hace un thriller perfecto

"Guardiola al Bayern, oficial", leí atónito. Mi cabeza viajó a la velocidad de la luz y me llevó a empolvados recuerdos que guardo en la memoria. Recordé un día de pesca en alta mar. Aún era de mañana, el cielo parecía el infierno, rojo con la salida del sol. El mar estaba en calma, parecía una alberca de agua salada. No se veía tierra. Desesperado porque no se veían rastros de peces ni de parvadas, que son las que indican a los pescadores que están cerca de las manchas de atún cuando uno está a unos 60 kilómetros de tierra en mar abierto, tomé los binoculares y comencé a mirar el horizonte en busca de señales de vida en lugar de mantener mi mirada en las carnadas vivas. De pronto, mientras yo intentaba localizar manchas de atún, en el curricán se agarro un Pez Vela. El capitán gritó: "¡Ahí está, es Vela, recoge las cuerdas!". El coraje invadía mi cuerpo al perderme el tremendo salto que pegó el animal mientras yo miraba para otro lado.

A mi mente llegó este recuerdo porque algo similar me pasó con la noticia de Guardiola. Mientras yo y millones de aficionados jurábamos sin cruzar los dedos que Pep acabaría en la Premier League dirigiendo al Manchester City, equipo que le había quitado las espinas de su camino y le había puesto una fresca carnada provocando su apetito, resulta que aparece el Bayern Munich con la determinación que caracteriza a los alemanes y firma al codiciado entrenador. Sí, el conjunto bávaro, ese silencioso trasatlántico que navega en aguas profundas sin temor a naufragar.

Me imagino que en Inglaterra han de estar alicaídos, con síntomas de enfermedad, como si se tratara de un hipocondríaco al que le han restringido las medicinas, decepcionados y sorprendidos, tanto esfuerzo, con cámaras y flashes a sus pies, con la prensa imaginando un mundo ideal con Guardiola y Mourinho en primer plano y su eterno Sir Alex Fergusonen la recámara.

La Premier había logrado robarle la atención a la Liga española. La reproducción de una obra de teatro como la que se vislumbraba convertiría al futbol inglés en el amo y señor del balompié, ese que les pertenece desde sus orígenes.

No hay más especulaciones made in Guardiola. Hasta el último minuto, como si fuera unthriller nominado al Globo de Oro, el de Santpedor desvió la atención. El martes por la noche hora de México nadie pensaba que Pep se iría a Alemania después de guiñarle el ojo a la Premier. Fue contundente, como Napoleón en sus días de gloria. "Espero algún día entrenar en la Premier", palabras más, palabras menos, un bálsamo para todos aquellos ingleses que tocaron su puerta, le tendieron la mano y le ofrecieron el mundo a sus pies, mientras ellos, los británicos, veían la llegada de Guardiola el próximo verano. Lo veían vestido a la Steve Jobs, bajándose del avión, con la barba crecida, radiante, motivado, en estado puro, preparado para hacer de la Premier el platillo más suculento para los aficionados al futbol.

Pero no, el temperamento alemán apareció sin previo aviso, sin levantar el polvo, caminando paso a pasito pero seguro, con la frialdad de los antagonistas, con la mesura de un corazón de hielo, con la integridad que los caracteriza y la firmeza que los engrandece. A Guardiola tuvo que haberle llamado la atención esa filosofía dirigida al perfeccionismo, al cumplimiento de la norma, a la palabra como promesa. ¿Para qué estudiar tanto inglés para terminar hablando alemán?, se preguntan algunos. Nos preguntamos algunos. Guardiola despreció los petrodólares de la Premier y se embarcó en un barco alemán con una maquinaria fantástica, casi perfecta, donde se deja trabajar, se dan tiempos y se cumplen ciclos, en donde las promesas cobrar la importancia del honor y los compromisos se cumplen al pie de la letra.

El Barcelona ya no teme al Manchester City como ayer. Si hay alguien satisfecho con la elección de Guardiola, ese es el conjunto blaugrana. Guardiola se va lejos de los reflectores, aunque se llevará algunos con él. Se va a un futbol que goza de estabilidad de económica. En la Bundesliga todos los engranes funcionan y están engrasados. Sorpresa la nuestra, la de la prensa, la del Manchester y la Premier, la de Abramovich, la del Barcelona, la de Messi y probablemente la de Mourinho, que se veía en la Premier, su bastión, encarnando una nueva batalla con Guardiola.

Guardiola mantuvo el silencio hasta el final de su decisión, hasta que todos los cabos estuvieran atados; todavía tuvo un detalle para aquellos que se entusiasmaron en Reino Unido, pero la decisión estaba tomada, ya tocará pisar la Premier, ahora son tiempos de aprender alemán, al menos tiene tiempo hasta 2016.
