Es moneda corriente hablar de los alimentos que no deben consumirse. Pero, ¿qué tal si hablamos de los que sí deberían formar parte de cualquier dieta que busque mantenerse en peso de manera saludable?
1. Carne
Actualmente la carne proviene muchas veces de animales que no han sido alimentados con hierba y a los que se proveyó de hormonas y antibióticos. Pero si la carne es extraída de animales que no han sufrido ninguno de estos tratos, es extremadamente saludable.
Por ejemplo, la carne de las vacas que han sido alimentadas a hierba tiene un perfil nutricional mucho mejor. Incluye más ácidos grasos omega-3 y menos omega-6; grandes cantidades de ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA), el cual puede disminuir la grasa corporal e incrementar la masa muscular magra, y más niveles de vitamina A, vitamina E y glutatión.
Pero si por alguna razón no se puede conseguir carne de animales criados de manera natural, consumir carne de ganado convencional es de todas formas mejor que apegarse a la dieta occidental estándar.
Además de poseer proteínas de alta calidad, el pescado contiene un gran nivel de ácidos grasos omega-3, el cual contribuye a la salud del cerebro y la prevención de enfermedades cardiovasculares. También son beneficiosos para combatir la depresión.
3. Huevos
En décadas pasadas tuvieron mala reputación, pero consumir huevos no produce ningún problema de salud. Los huevos convierten al colesterol LDL pequeño y denso (que es nocivo) en LDL grande (que es beneficioso), además de elevar el colesterol HDL (también bueno).
Otro beneficio de los huevos es su gran presencia de los antioxidantes luteína y zeaxantina, importantes para la salud de los ojos. Además, los huevos poseen un índice de saciedad alto, llevando a un menor consumo de calorías y a bajar de peso.
El alto contenido de fibra, nutrientes y antioxidantes convierte a los vegetales en un alimento capaz de bajar el riesgo de sufrir cáncer, diabetes y problemas cardíacos. Además, su contenido de calorías es muy bajo, con lo cual pueden consumirse con asiduidad y en grandes cantidades.
5. Frutas
Al igual que los vegetales, las frutas tienen una gran presencia de fibras, antioxidantes y vitaminas; poseen una baja densidad energética, y es casi imposible comerlas "de más". De todas formas, las personas que elijan perder peso con una dieta baja en carbohidratos deberían comer sólo una porción al día.
6. Frutos secos y semillas
Los frutos secos (nueces, almendras, avellanas y más) y las semillas contienen muchos nutrientes esenciales, especialmente vitamina E y magnesio. Además, su consumo está ligado a una mejor sensibilidad a la insulina, menor peso corporal y buena salud. De todas formas, se recomienda consumirlas con moderación, ya que son altas en calorías.
7. Tubérculos
Las papas y las batatas, vegetales de raíz, son saludables, nutritivos y brindan saciedad.
Sin embargo, las personas que siguen una dieta baja en hidratos de carbono deben evitarlos o consumirlos en cantidades mínimas, ya que contienen un alto nivel de carbohidratos.
8. Grasas y aceites saludables
Agregar a la dieta cantidades moderadas de manteca, aceite de coco y aceite de oliva es una buena decisión. El aceite de coco y la manteca son especialmente recomendables para cocinar a altas temperaturas, ya que su ausencia de dobles enlaces los hace más resistentes al calor.
9. Lácteos altos en grasas
Los lácteos enteros son ricos en grasas saludables, calcio y otros nutrientes. Y, de hecho, se asocian con una menor ganancia de peso. Si, además, los lácteos provienen de animales alimentados con hierba, tendrán una gran presencia de vitamina K2, esencial para el buen estado óseo.
