El fin de semana se estrenó 'Snow White and the Huntsman (Blanca Nieves y el cazador)', protagonizada por Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart y Chris Hemsworth. Así, la segunda película sobre la clásica aventura de los hermanos Grimm llegó a la pantalla grande, después de que en marzo se viera 'Mirror Mirror (Espejito espejito)', aquella con Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer y Lily Collins en el papel principal.
Ahora que ya hemos visto ambas cintas, son inevitables las comparaciones. ¿Cuál de ellas es mejor? ¿Cuál es la más entretenida, la más interesante? ¿Puedo enseñarle ambas a mis hijos? A continuación te cuento un poco de ellas para que decidas con cuál te quedas tú...
Primero tenemos 'Mirror Mirror'. Dirigida por Tarsem Singh, a quien recordarás por la bizarra cinta 'The Cell' con Jennifer Lopez y quien el año pasado retomó la historia de los dioses del Olimpo con 'Immortals'.
Sin duda, ésta es la versión familiar, algo que pudimos vislumbrar desde el primer avance. Como en cada uno de los proyectos de Singh, visualmente, la película es estupenda, siguiendo con los magníficos sets, escenarios y un diseño de producción realmente sobresaliente. Quedarás maravillado con todo lo visual; como un ejemplo, el mundo alterno de la Reina Malvada (Julia Roberts) detrás de su adorado espejito. Es, como bien dicen por ahí, "eye candy".
El vestuario también es de primer nivel, como los exageradísimos vestidos que usa Roberts a lo largo de la cinta, que son responsabilidad de la japonesa Eiko Ishioka, anterior colaboradora de Singh y quien ganó el Oscar por Mejor Vestuario gracias a 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' (1992).
Lamentablemente, Ishioka no vivió lo suficiente para ver su obra en pantalla, ya que la renombrada artista japonesa falleció en enero de cáncer de páncreas. Sus obras para 'Mirror Mirror' son igual de estrafalarias que espectaculares y se nota que a Julia Roberts y Lily Collins debieron fascinarles todo este proceso. Hay incluso una curiosa escena en que a Roberts están intentando meterla a como dé lugar en su corset.
La película, aunque no fue un completo fracaso, tuvo una tibia respuesta en taquilla, con $63 millones de dólares en Estados Unidos y cerca de 100 millones más alrededor del mundo. Tal vez la gente se espantó por el tono fársico e infantil que permeaban los avances de la película.
Sin embargo, no dejes que esto te engañe. La cinta no es sosa y ridícula, sino sorprendentemente todo lo contrario. Irradia buen humor y te contagia con su sentido de dulzura, con cierto toque kitsch que indudablemente toda la familia puede disfrutar.
Todo esto encabezado por las buenas actuaciones del trío principal. La protagonista, Lily Collins (hija del música Phil Collins) es una Blanca Nieves dulce, adorable. Armie Hammer es cautivante y excesivamente carismático como el Príncipe Alcott, a pesar de que lo pongan a actuar como cachorrito, en una de las escenas más absurdas de la cinta. ¿Y Julia Roberts? Pues se nota que se la está pasando bien, sin duda... Aunque hace un buen trabajo, hay momentos en que uno no deja de pensar que bueno... es Julia Roberts divirtiéndose de lo lindo en una cinta exagerada.
Quienes merecen mención aparte son los siete actores que interpretan a los enanitos, cada uno con su peculiar personalidad - no esperes a Doc, Tontín, Estornudo y aquellos de la versión animada de Disney. También, el siempre confiable Nathan Lane es el sirviente sufrido de la Reina, quien suple aquí el rol del Cazador.
La película ya no está en salas, pero se estrena en BluRay y DVD este próximo 26 de junio, por lo que te recomiendo que le des una segunda oportunidad si es que no la has visto, más si tienes pequeños en casa - o si tú, como yo, todavía estás muy en contacto con tu niño interno.
Por otro lado, tenemos el estreno de 'Snow White and the Huntsman', a cargo del novato Rupert Sanders. Sin lugar a dudas, es una versión más oscura y tenebrosa, no apta para toda la familia. Repito, no lleves a tus hijos pequeños a ver esta película. No tiene una pizca de inocencia o humor negro como el 'Alice in Wonderland' de Tim Burton, así que si no quieres tener a tu pequeño traumado y con pesadillas, mejor evítate el disgusto.
Con esto no quiero decir que sea una cinta de terror, porque no lo es. Es de acción y aventura con toques de luchas medievales y escenas de guerra total. Visualmente, también 'Snow White and the Huntsman' no tiene nada qué pedir... está hermosa también. Filmada en locaciones asombrosas de Irlanda, Gales e Inglaterra, así como sets impecables, como el castillo de la Reina Malvada (Charlize Theron).
No obstante, la falla de esta cinta radica en las actuaciones dispares y el tedio que a ratos tiene la historia. Chris 'Thor' Hemsworth está bien en su rol del Cazador, un alcohólico sufriendo por la pérdida de su esposa que se ve de repente con la labor de matar a Blanca Nieves pero debe cambiar rápidamente su ideología al comprobar que ella es la salvación del Reino.
Charlize Theron se roba la película como Ravenna, la cruel madrastra y Reina con tremendos poderes, similares a un vampiro, de robarse la juventud de cualquier persona para mantenerse joven y bella y que es capaz de viajar hasta el escondite de Blanca Nieves transformándose en docenas de cuervos. La rubia se come el escenario y hasta sobreactúa en un par de escenas, recitando casi exageradamente sus diálogos para aumentar el nivel de amenaza. A ratos te molesta este detalle, pero en realidad, Theron es la estrella a destacar.
Y por ello, debemos acabar con Kristen Stewart, como la titular Blanca Nieves. Si de por sí la chica es insufrible dentro de la saga de 'Twilight (Crepúsculo)', acá de nueva cuenta demuestra su poca capacidad actoral y limitadas expresiones faciales - hay una razón por la que en el corto tiene solamente un par de frases, fíjate bien. Si ella es la mujer más bella del Reino, mejor que nos traigan a la Chilindrina.
Otro problema radica en la trama, que nos quiere presentar a Blanca Nieves como una especie de Juana de Arco que debe salvar a su pueblo y por ello, embarcarse en una guerra para la cual milagrosamente, de la nada, estará preparada. El "príncipe", aquí nombrado como William, un amigo suyo de la infancia e interpretado por Sam Claflin (que hizo un papel bastante similar el año pasado en la cuarta 'Pirates of the Caribbean'), es sencillamente una distracción, un papel de relleno a quien se le bajó presencia para acrecentar al Cazador de Hemsworth.
'Snow White and the Huntsman' presenta un mundo gris, decrépito, todo por el cruel reinado de Ravenna, donde además el Bosque Tenebroso sin duda no será un juego que encontremos en Disney, con sus hongos alucinógenos, decenas de bichos rastreros y trolls asesinos.
Finalmente, no es una cinta mala, ya que en definitiva es entretenida a ratos, más que nada gracias a Charlize, para disfrutar con tus palomitas-pochoclo-poscorn y evocando la auténtica naturaleza siniestra de la gran parte de las obras de los hermanos Grimm.
