Now she's back to launch her own very first collection That Bald Chick.

After growing a following of more than 550,000 fans on her Youtube channel taliajoy18 “Make-up is My Wig”, and becoming Cover Girl’s honorary model last year, the young fashionista has made one of her biggest dreams come true with her new line of casual and young apparel for teenagers.

With the help of Persian-Spanish designer Urbana Chappa, a victim of breast cancer herself, she has now released her first lookbook, with some of pieces that will become part of her new project. Created by both artists, 100 percent of the proceeds from the collection will go to Talia's family to help defray the medical costs of medications and the hospital services, where Talia is now being treated.

“I wanted to create a fashion line for teens that is trendy. Urbana Chappa reached out to me to help make my dreams come true. She and I sketched the designs and she and her team produced it for us,” Talia said to The Huffington Post.

About the name she choose to identify her brand, the new designer explains she didn't want her fashion line to have her name but wanted it to represent her in some way.

The social media star of Hispanic roots, who describes herself as “humble, outgoing and a leader,” also says she feels more identified with the “boho chic and grunge” styles, and hopes she can inspire other young teens to express themselves through their fashion.

From her hospital bed in Florida, where she is currently fighting a neuroblastoma, a cancerous tumor that develops from nerve tissue, and preleukemia, sprung up in her bone marrow, Talia now looks forward to feature her collection in big department stores like Target and as far as Paris.

She also assures nothing, not even her current health state, can distance her from what makes her the happiest: “My viewers on Youtube, fashion, makeup, and being alive.”

In an island where crime rates soar higher each year, the police department of Puerto Rico is currently facing a surge in absenteeism due to a sudden epidemic of reported "sick agents," after police force members decreed a kind of unofficial sit-down strike over non-paid sick days.

The absenteeism among the law enforcement officials became more evident this month when officers began calling in sick after they had been informed that they would not receive a check for non-used sick days or overtime, scheduled for delivery in March.

Last month, the Government of Puerto Rico stopped paying this year’s accumulated sick days to public employees of various governmental departments, due to a deficit of $20 million, reported Primera Hora.

Since then, thousands of police officers have stopped showing up to work with the excuse of being sick. According to the newspaper, surveys conducted by an organization representing Puerto Rico's police force estimates that so far about 2,500 agents have been absent, and the number is expected to increase in the upcoming days.

In addition, the newspaper said the strike also threatens to spread to other public agencies that have also been affected by the government's decision, like the Fire Department, the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and Special Investigations Unit (NIE) from the Department of Justice.

According to the newspaper El Nuevo Dia, some policemen have also turned to social media to express their disapproval for the adoption of new amendments to the Retirement Act.

Meanwhile, daily El Vocero reports, Governor Alejandro García Padilla warned on Monday that as their supervisor he has the right to verify the records, and be informed of the reasons for which each absent policemen has been out of work during these days, and he is planning to enforce that.

"I've already asked the colonel of Arecibo (Ramos Marcos Marrero) to provide me the lists of police officers who have been absent and their certificates... I am their supervisor and I have the right to see their entire files if I want to," said Garcia Padilla during a press conference.

It is expected that on Tuesday an emergency meeting will be conducted between various groups to reach agreements.

Puerto Rico reported a record-high murder rate of 26.2 per 100,000 residents in 2011 in comparison with the city of Los Angeles, which has a similar population number and obtained a rate of 7.7 during the same year.

Y Mami me miraba y me decía, ‘Eres Zoe…

Zoe Saldaña is out and about revealing some of her most inner thoughts in the cover of the annual spring issue of InStyle Hair, and the May edition of Latina magazine.

As part of her interview with InStyle the Puerto Rican and Dominican actress confessed she has always loved her skin color and hair and has learned to embrace her ethnic accents using them in her favor.

“In Latino culture, hair carries a lot of history, a lot of weight, and a lot of energy,” said Saldaña to InStyle. “I always liked my hair. I never wanted to have any other skin but my own, any other hair but my own.”

For Zoe that self-confidence along with her mother’s most precious advice is what has helped shape who she is today and face some of her most difficult times.

“My mom raised my sisters and I with a strong sense of self. [My mother] always said, ‘Honey, there is nothing that a red lipstick and a pair of red shoes can’t heal, cure, or solve.’ And I absolutely believe that. They can get you out of anything, even the biggest funk of your life,” she said to the fashion and style magazine.

In an interview with Latina magazine, the actress remembers it was also her mom who taught her one of the most important lessons of her life: to believe in herself and never let anyone else define who she was.

“I would come home from school and go, ‘Mami, what am I? You know, cause I’m getting all kinds of things and people are mean.’ And Mami would look at me and go, ‘You’re Zoe… You’re my daughter, your grandma’s granddaughter, you’re Zoe. My mom wouldn’t go, ‘tu eres una mujer de color [you are a woman of color] and always remember it, this world is going to be rough.’ My mom never f****** told us that, why would she? Why would she stop my flight before I even take off?”

Saldaña also confesses that when it comes to men, she is not a needy, co-dependent woman and knows well what is the difference between needing and wanting something. And although, she admits to have been heartbroken before, the artist assures she tends to recover very easily.

“Maybe it’s just the kind of person that I am, or maybe I haven’t really fallen in love yet, had that crash boom bam in my life yet, but I tend to recover, you know, healthy and smoothly... And if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” the actress said to Latina. “A man is something that I want, because this partner is going to add or I’m going to add to this partner.”

The star also took the opportunity to clarify reports about a mental breakdown following her blockbuster success with "Avatar" stating they were “blown out of proportion.” She also explained she almost didn’t accept her role in following project “Star Trek” out of plain fear.

“I was afraid... I think I was just a little beside myself because after the treat and the gift of booking Avatar and being in the middle of shooting, to be able to then do another great movie with another great filmmaker back to back—I was a little overwhelmed,” she says.

The actress also didn’t waste time admitting to Latina she was very affected after a controversy surrounding her participation in a biopic of iconic jazz singer Nina Simone heated up.

“Yes, of course. I’m not made of metal. Things will resonate in you and they will move you whether good or bad," said Saldaña. “But you can’t let that define who you are and you can’t let that dictate the path that you’re going to take in your life.”

Zoe is expected to be part of the "Star Trek" sequel on May 17th. The Instyle Hair issue will be out in April 5th, and the Latina Magazine feature will also be available by April 9th.

During a moment when gay rights are being rethought throughout the Hispanic community in the United States and in Latin America, a new study shows a large group of undocumented and documented Latinos are also part of the lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) community.

Findings in a study by the Williams Institute at UCLA in California show there are approximately 267,000 people who identify as LGBT within the population of adult illegal immigrants in America. Also, another 637,000 identify as immigrant LGBT adults with documents.

The report also reveals that from these numbers, about 71 percent of LGBT adults are undocumented Hispanics and 15 percent are Asian or Pacific Islanders.

“It is estimated that 900,000 people in this country are LGBT immigrants, among whom more than 48,000 are in with a same-sex couple where one or both spouses or partners are not U.S. citizens," said the study lead expert Dr. Gary Gates in a press release.

Among the key findings about this population is the estimate that in relation with all undocumented immigrants, those who are LGBT are more likely to be younger males.

Pew Hispanic Research Center estimates that in 2011 the immigrant population reached a record of 40.4 million foreign-born people living in the United States. Of this group, approximately 11.1 million were undocumented.

Recently, Hispanics inside and outside of the United States have found themselves debating on gay rights, and formulating strong positions with regards to this matter.

According to a Field Poll, 56 percent of California Latinos now support same-sex marriage. Most recently, a poll conducted by Latino Decisions for the group Immigration Equality also showed that nearly two-thirds of Latino voters support allowing same-sex couples equal immigration rights.

Meanwhile in February more than 200,00 faithful Puerto Rican Christians turned to the streets to demonstrate in favor of "traditional" family values and against gay rights in the island. The protest comes at a time when Puerto Rico's legislature is reviewing a proposal, which would protect all couples, regardless of sexual orientation, of domestic violence. In addition, members of the House of Representatives are also working on a bill that would prohibit discrimination due to sexual orientation in the work place.

Countries like Ecuador, however, have started to reconcile with the LGBT community. In a historic speech, after winning the re-election in February Ecuador's President Rafael Correa apologized to gay Ecuadorians for homophobic comments made last year, and promised his government will be more inclusive and sensitive moving forward.

Ecuador's President Rafael Correa kept his word to the gay community and apologized a second time on Sunday, after his re-election, for homophobic comments made last year.

At the time, the Ecuadorian leader had used the word "faggot" to insult a reader who had criticized his government on a local newspaper's Facebook, referring to him with the same term. Correa later explained he had used the expression in an attempt to call his offender a "coward," according to the Spanish news agency EFE.

However, after the LGBT community in the country demanded an explanation, the president apologized in writing and ensured he was not doing it to win votes but because he was genuinely remorseful about the incident.

After winning his third term in office, Correa took a few minutes out of his re-election speech to reassure the country that his government has a genuine commitment to defend everyone's dignity and equality.

“We are diverse but never unequal,” he said.

As reported on the website Blabbeando, the Latin American president expressed his full support for all Ecuadorian members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups.

“A few months ago I used some inappropriate words that were offensive to LGBT groups, and I apologized in writing - and I stated I would apologize again after winning to make sure they knew I wasn't doing it simply for political gain.

Once again I'd like to express my apologies to those LGBT groups... We were born and grew up with stereotypes and stigmas and we have to fight against that social deformation… Let's offer them [the gay community] all our support and personally - my full respect and the effort and commitment to eliminate all types of discrimination in this country.”

The gay community has consistently been a victim of this type of transgressions by politicians from Latin American countries. Last year, Venezuela's Vice President Nicolas Maduro called the leaders of the opposition party "snobs, fascists and faggots," in an effort to offend them, prompting the resentment of many LGBT supporters.

Other leaders like Bolivia's president Evo Morales, have also faced criticism after declaring in 2010 that "when men eat chicken [with female hormones] they experience deviances in being men." The Bolivian government responded to backlash by promising they would "ratify" respect towards sexual liberty as the Bolivian constitution establishes it.

Reaffirm the values of the "traditional" family and fight against gay rights, that was the mission of a group of more than 200,000 faithful Christians who met in "Puerto Rico Stands Up", one of the largest pro-family demonstrations ever held in the U.S. commonwealth.

According to Puerto Rican daily El Vocero, from the early hours of Monday morning, members of different Christian denominations from all parts of the island began to gather in front of the Capitol building in the city capital of San Juan, paralyzing traffic in and out of the area.

With gospel music and banners alluding to the defense of exclusive marriage between men and women, participants also protested statements made by government officials seeking to grant rights to gay couples through new legislations.

Cesar Vazquez Muñiz, spokesman of Puerto Rico for the Family, the organization behind the activity, explained their purpose was to protect marriage and family values that would later affect future generations.

"We are concerned that laws will be created to discriminate against the church... We are concerned that public education will be used to change our children, presenting them with behaviors their parents don’t think are correct," said Vazquez in an interview with El Vocero. "This demonstration tells the government that there are things that they cannot touch and those are marriage and family."

Although its presence wasn't as strong, a counter protest was also held by religious leaders and followers near the area in support of gay rights. The group repudiated the expressions made by the religious movement and demanded measures to promote equality.

"One of the struggles I've had with the church is its sexist and homophobic message, and obviously when I see that they are using the resources they have to promote discrimination I cannot stay quiet because that is not the message of God," said Pastor Yenen Silén to Univision.

Other leaders, like Puerto Rican human rights activist Pedro Julio Serrano, also made use of social media platforms to label the event as "full of hate and intolerance."

"Today was a day filled with hatred and intolerance against the LGBT community. Thousands went to the Capitol, deceived by their leaders, supposedly to ‘defend the family’, but that was the least of what they did,” he said on Monday on his Facebook account. "You don’t defend a family by denying rights to its most vulnerable members, attacking the dignity of any human being with hate, discrimination, intolerance and exclusion."

Meanwhile, at a press conference, the new governor of the island Alejandro García Padilla said he will keep defending the rights of all communities, without exception or discrimination by sexual orientation, yet he reaffirmed his position not supporting gay marriage.

"I have met with both sides of the leadership. As governor I react to reason, not pressure. My government is a government of inclusion, we all live in this country, we are all responsible for a better country," said Governor Alejandro García Padilla to Univision.

"I favor the law 54 which protects domestic partnership... As for marriage, I do not agree that it should be anything except between man and woman. But the rights that are guaranteed to people are those we have to look for and secure for all human beings," he added.

The protest comes at a time when Puerto Rico's legislature is reviewing a new amendment to Law 54, which would protect all couples, regardless of marital status or sexual orientation, of domestic violence. In addition, members of the House of Representatives are also working on a bill that would prohibit discrimination due to sexual orientation in the work place.

Although the numbers of attendees haven’t been officially released by the authorities, Christian leaders claim between 200,000 to 268,000 people attended the event. The largest demonstration of this type reported so far was in France, which gathered 340,000 at the beginning of the year.

After the abrupt termination of Puerto Rican controversial TV show, “SuperXclusivo”, WAPA Television and WAPA America premiered Monday its new original entertainment/gossip program “Lo sé todo” (“I Know Everything”).

The station said the live one-hour show will air daily at 6pm (ET), and will offer viewers a “combination of entertainment, comedy and investigative reporting presented in an innovative format with heavy interactive and digital components.”

“Without a doubt, ‘Lo Se Todo’ will be the most innovative show Puerto Rico has ever seen,” said Jose E. Ramos, President of WAPA-TV in a press release. “We have been producing the top-rated shows in Puerto Rico for more than 50 years now, and we know the winning formula of a successful program.”

The new show will occupy the vacant place left by Antulio "Kobbo" Santarrosa and its polemic character La Comay, after his surprising resignation last month. At the time, WAPA TV’s management announced the puppeteer quit the show after refusing to accept new guidelines that established the show would be pre-recorded rather than airing live.

“It’s no longer going to be a live show,” said José Ramos, President of WAPA Television on December to HuffPost Live. "It’s going to be taped at least one to two hours in advance. So we’ll have the opportunity to review it and make sure we can reduce the amount of material that could be sensitive to some parties.”

Broadcast on primetime during weekdays, the popular show became a platform where political and entertainment issues were discussed. But "SuperXclusivo" faced a boycott spurred by social media groups after La Comay offended people by saying a murder victim was likely responsible for his own death. The movement influenced several advertisers to pull their ads from the show, putting a dent in its revenue.

However, critics have pointed out that the show not only will be based on gossip as well, but part of its cast and production crew will also remain the same. Sylvia Hernández and Jessica Serrano, former reporters for “SuperXclusivo," and producer Maximiliano Paglia, will also be collaborating with the new project, which has some doubting whether it will be any different than its predecessor.

"The only ones we have hired are Jessica and Sylvia, who were the two reporters who worked for 'SuperXclusivo.'" Ramos told Puerto Rican daily Primera Hora, defending his decision. "Yes, they became unemployed and we hired them. Maxi, who was the producer (from the last program), will also be the producer of the new program. It is a team that knows what they are doing, they are successful.”

Many have called him a hero; even president Barack Obama has recognized him for his courage. However, for Daniel Hernández, who is now revealing his life in a new memoir, he's just a regular guy “who happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

On Jan. 8, 2011 in Tucson, Arizona, Hernández witnessed the moment when a gunman unexpectedly opened fire during a political gathering at a supermarket parking lot. He killed six people and wounded another 13, including local congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

At the time, Hernández was starting his first week as an intern in the congresswoman’s office and attended the event without suspecting he would later become the person who helped victims shot during the attack, and save the lives of many.

With the little medical emergency lessons he had taken in the past, he managed to find the entrance wound on the left side of Gifford’s skull and cover it with his bare hands trying to stop the bleeding. This kept her alive until the paramedics arrived.

Two years later, Hernández, of Mexican descent, says he has used the fame and recognition that came from that event to help other young Latinos understand they too can make a difference. He has also become an inspirational leader within the LGBT community.

In his first book "They Call Me a Hero: A Memoir of My Youth," he shares his experiences from the day of the shooting to how that moment has helped him turn into a better person, yet he still assures he is no hero.

"I really still don't think of myself as a hero," he said to The Huffington Post. "I was just a 20-year-old intern who happened to be in the right place at the right time. I hope to dedicate myself to being a true hero some day, by doing something positive like Gabby -- by helping others."
