La tan esperada pelea del siglo entre Floyd Mayweather Jr. y Manny Pacquiao tiene lugar y fecha.

Este viernes el peleador estadounidense anunció a través de las redes sociales que el combate se realizará el próximo 2 de mayo en el MGM Grand Arena de Las Vegas, Nevada.

'MoneyMay' publicó una foto del contrato bajo la leyenda: "Lo que el mundo ha estado esperando es un hecho. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao el 2 de mayo, es un trato hecho. Prometí a los fan que lo haríamos...".

"Éste será el mayor evento en la historia del deporte. Manny intentará hacer lo que otros 47 han intentado (derrotarlo), pero fallará, será el número 48", dijo Mayweather en un comunicado de prensa.

Después de casi seis años de rumores y negociaciones fallidas, todos los interesados pudieron llegar a un acuerdo para concretar la que seguramente será la pelea de boxeo más lucrativa de la historia. Según SB Nation, se espera que Mayweather se embolse 120 millones de dólares, por 80 del filipino.

El contrato fue firmado para que dos de los peleadores considerados en su momento como los mejores libra por libra del mundo suban al ring en las 147 libras. Independientemente del resultado no hay una cláusula de revancha directa.

HBO y ShowTime negocian los derechos de transmisión, aunque definitivamente será un Pago Por Evento simultáneo, quizá el más solicitado alguna vez.

El 2 de mayo, fin de semana en el que se festeja el Cinco de Mayo en los Estados Unidos, se ha convertido en la fecha predilecta por le mundo del boxeo para celebrar los grandes combates. Como no habrá ojos para mirar otra cosa, peleadores como Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez, deberán buscar otra fecha para combatir, se espera que su función contra James Kirkland se mueva al 9 de mayo.
