WASHINGTON (AP) Casi la mitad de los estadounidenses tiene una opinión favorable sobre Cuba y cerca de seis de cada 10 quieren el fin del embargo comercial impuesto desde 1962 a la isla comunista, según un sondeo difundido el jueves.

La encuestadora Gallup dijo que el 46% de los estadounidenses con una opinión favorable sobre Cuba representa un incremento de ocho puntos respecto al año pasado y casi triplica el sentimiento registrado hace tres décadas.

Igualmente, Gallup señaló que el 59% de estadounidenses a favor de acabar el embargo comercial es la opinión más elevada desde que comenzó a formular esa pregunta en 1999.

Gallup encuestó entre el 8 y el 11 de febrero a 837 adultos en los 50 estados de Estados Unidos y el Distrito de Columbia. El margen de error es más-menos 4 puntos porcentuales.

Es la primera encuesta realizada por Gallup desde que el presidente Barack Obama anunciara en diciembre que buscará la reanudación de relaciones diplomáticas con Cuba, pero dejó claro que solo el Congreso puede levantar el embargo estipulado en legislación estadounidense.
