La madre de 25 años, residente de Gainsborough, Gran Bretaña, tiene cinco hijos, pero desarrolló este bizarro antojo cuando estaba embarazada de su último hijo Jaxon, de 15 meses.
"Cuando tenía dos meses de embarazo, se me empezó a antojar el rollo de papel. Todavía no sé por qué", dijo, según Lincolnshire Echo. "Más que el sabor, me gusta cómo se siente la textura en mi boca. Me gusta la sequedad. Mi familia me dice que no es bueno para mí - pero no puedo evitarlo".
Sylvester dice que no puede alejarse de esta conducta, pero que espera a tener deseos de ir al baño para poder satisfacerse.
"Trato de aguantar ir al baño porque sé que si voy me comeré el papel", dijo, según el Mirror. "Usualmente me como cerca de cuatro pedazos por visita -- a veces voy al baño sólo para buscar el rollo de papel. Me llena bastante. Al principio solía comerme un par de cuadritos, pero sigo comiendo más y más".
Sylvester estima que se come hasta un rollo de papel cada día, y le preocupa la posibilidad de tener algún problema.
"No puedo dejarlo. Sigo regresando por más", dijo, según Metro. "No le estoy haciendo bien [a mi cuerpo] por dentro, pero no me ha causado ningún problema de salud, o alguna enfermedad".
Sylvester sospecha tener Pica, una condición en la que se sienten antojos por sustancias que no son comidas, como almidón de maíz, arcilla, polvo de hornear, tierra, o hielo, y es común durante el embarazo.
Se desconoce por qué algunas mujeres desarrollan antojos como los de Pica durante el embarazo, pero algunos estudios sugieren una conexión con la deficiencia de hierro, según el Journal of American Dietetic Association.
Sin embargo, la American Pregnancy Association advierte que consumir sustancias que no son alimentospuede interferir con la absorción de los nutrientes de la comida saludable, lo cual puede causar deficiencia de estos, reporta el Daily Mail.
Sylvester dice que su gusto por el papel higiénico le ha traído problemas con sus hijos.
"Intento esconderlo de mis hijos, si me ven comiendo del rollo de papel me regañan", dijo ella, de acuerdo con Express. "Si mi hija me ve me dice, 'Escúpelo, mami, escúpelo en el inodoro'".
