Con dos goles del argentino Sergio Agüero, uno de ellos de manufactura de primer nivel, la escuadra del Manchester City se llevó el derby de la ciudad, luego de humillar en el Etihad Stadium al conjunto del United 4-1, que lo coloca en los primeros lugares de la Premier League.
El cuadro del director técnico Manuel Pellegrini fue completamente superior en la mayor parte del encuentro a los pupilos de David Moyes, quien le terminó afectando la ausencia de su goleador Robin van Persie, pues en esta ocasión su delantera no fue la misma si el romperredes holandés.
La historia del partido se empezó a escribir desde el minuto 16 por medio del golazo de Sergio Agüero, quien con mucha técnica jaló la pelota en el área chica para rematar un centro por la banda derecha de su compañero Aleksandar Kolarov, en la que el portero De Gea ya no pudo hacer nada.
ManU buscó por todos los medios empatar, pero sus ataques lucieron faltos de profundidad, por lo que al final del primer tiempo llegó el segundo de los locales mediante Yaya Touré, que terminó empujando al fondo un desvío de Álvaro Negredo en un tiro de esquina por el lado derecho.
El segundo periodo no cambió mucho, ya que en los primeros minutos el Manchester City sentenció el partido con su tercer gol por conducto del ‘Kun’ Agüero –segundo en su cuenta- al 47’, quien remató un gran centro de Álvaro Negredo.
Con esto el ManU perdió confianza y el cuarto no tardó en llegar en su contra por medio de Samir Nasri (50’), quien remató un centro de volea por la banda derecha de Jesús Navas, para dejar la pelota de derechazo en el fondo.
El cuadro del timonel Pellegrini bajó el ritmo de juego, pero la escuadra visitante siguió careciendo de ideas al frente; sin embargo, al final logró recortar el marcador al minuto 87 por medio de un golazo de Wayne Rooney, quien de tiro libre fuera del área grande colocó la pelota en el ángulo superior izquierdo de Hart para sentenciar el marcador.
