OSSINING, Nueva York, EE.UU. (AP) — Un hombre condenado por mantener cautiva a una niña de 10 años durante 17 días en una mazmorra en un suburbio de Nueva York fue hallado muerto en su celda.

Una vocera del sistema de correccionales del estado dijo que John Esposito fue encontrado inerte en su celda en Sing Sing, Ossining, estado de Nueva York. Agregó que la muerte es investigada pero que no parecía haber nada sospechoso.

Agregó que Esposito cumplía una condena de 15 años a cadena perpetua por haber secuestrado a Katie Beers y haberla mantenido cautiva durante 17 días en su casa de Bay Shore en 1992.

Linda Foglia dijo que un agente correccional observó que el recluso "no respiraba" a eso de las 3:30 de la tarde. El sentenciado había comparecido ese mismo día ante una junta de libertad condicional.

Beers dijo en una declaración a CBS-TV que estaba contenta de que Esposito "nunca tenga la oportunidad de volver a lastimar a nadie".
