RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — El papa Francisco, en un último exhorto al cierre de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud en Rio de Janeiro, pidió valor a los jóvenes para salir y convertirse en misioneros y desconocer fronteras y límites en esa labor que encomienda Jesús.

"Vayan sin medio para servir", llamó el pontífice a los jóvenes al hablar en la homilía de la misa final de la Jornada.

Según las autoridades, unos tres millones de personas participan de la misa.

Jesucristo, la iglesia y "el papa cuenta con ustedes" en esa misión, añadió el santo padre arrancando vivas de entre la multitud.

Ser misioneros es una tarea en la que "no hay fronteras, no hay límites: (Jesús) nos envía a todos", agregó el papa argentino, que como a lo largo de su visita a Brasil ha usado indistintamente el portugués y el españolo, dando preferencia a su lengua natal que le permite improvisar al leer sus discursos escritos por él mismo.

"No tengan miedo de ir y llevar a Cristo a cualquier ambiente...La iglesia necesita de ustedes, del entusiasmo, la creatividad y la alegría que les caracteriza" a los jóvenes, insistió Francisco, quien a lo largo de la Jornada iniciada el 22 de julio ha machacado la necesidad que la iglesia salga a la calle, cuente con los más jóvenes, pero también con los ancianos.

Francisco, elegido en marzo, regresó al continente que lo vio nacer y que se convirtió en su primer viaje internacional como pontífice.

Difundir el evangelio "es llevar la fuerza de Dios para arrancar y arrasar el mal y la violencia, para destruir y demoler las barreras del egoísmo, la intolerancia y el odio", dijo ante la imponente masa de feligreses agolpados en la playa de Copacabana y la vía que la bordea a lo largo de más de cuatro kilómetros.

Debido a la multitud que durmió en la playa, Copacabana está llena de basura. Los basureros están desbordados y hay botellas plásticas, cajas de jugos, bolsas de alimentos y restos de comida en la calle y la playa.

Los baños portátiles están desbordados, la gente abre las puertas de la caseta azul y no entra, se aleja con gestos de asco y horror.

Michael Carecí, de 20 años, estudiante de seguridad industrial de Barquisimeto, en Venezuela dijo que "esta jornada marca un antes y un después en mi vida". "Nunca antes había salido de Venezuela, fue un año de sacrificios para estar aquí".

"Estar aquí con tanta gente en presencia del papa es algo que emociona y llena".
