El mexicano Abner Mares no quiere bajar el ritmo de peleas, ni tomarse tranquilo el resto del año.

El tapatío de 27 años de edad, reveló que un futuro le gustaría enfrentar a alguien como el mexicoamericano Mikey García o seguir buscando encuentros de gran interés que represente un reto.

“Saben que nunca he rehuido los enfrentamientos, ni busco rivales fáciles para mis peleas. Quiero verdaderos retos pues será mi legado al boxeo que tanto me ha dado. No quiero ser recordado como un campeón invicto, quiero que recuerden mis grandes peleas. No tengo miedo a perder”, dijo el tapatío, quien en su última pelea venció por nocaut técnico en nueve rounds al pegador chihuahuense Daniel Ponce de León.

Abner decidió rechazar la posibilidad de integrar el cartel que complete la velada que protagonizarán Floyd Mayweather y Saúl Álvarez con miras a comenzar su propio camino en pos de convertirse en figura.

“Fue una decisión complicada, pues sé que esa cartelera será muy vista, pero llegó la hora de empezar mi camino. En esta fecha que tengo ahora seré estelar y además ganaré mayor dinero”, dijo a HuffPost Voces el peleador de Guadalajara.

Abner se encuentra en preparación para su retorno a los encordados, pautado para el 24 de agosto en el StubHub Center de Carson, California, ante un rival por designar ya que el ex campeón mundial mexicano Jhonny González decidió declinar la oportunidad ahora que las opciones de negociación no lo favorecían.

“Yo quiero a los rivales más duros. No importa. Si bien pedía Mikey (García), se que e duelo es poco probable por la cuestión de pleito de entre empresas, pero Jhonny no se queda atrás. Es un peleador fuerte y con mucha hambre de recuperar la calidad de campeón. Se que se darán buenas peleas y yo seguiré presionando para que me consigan las mejores peleas. Insisto, no me da miedo perder”, abundó Mares, quien destacó que lo único que podría frenarlo sería que las empresas Top Rank y Golden Boy Promotions se sigan negando a enfrentar a sus peladores.
