"Me voy a sentar en el escritorio del Presidente de los Estados Unidos", así decía el presidente de Chile, Sebastián Piñera, rompiendo todos los protocolos políticos y de la Casa Blanca y ante la mirada de sorpresa de Barack Obama.

La decisión de Piñera, que aparentemente fue de manera espontánea y sin consultarla con asesores o personal de seguridad del Presidente Obama, fue el elemento más destacado de la primera visita oficial de Sebastián Piñera a Estados Unidos.

Además como si fuera un derecho, Piñera dijo: "Además, una de mis hijas nació en este país".

Una de las personas que presenciaron el hecho, preguntó entre la sorpresa y las risas que se escuchaban en la Oficina Oval que cuántos presidentes del mundo habían hecho eso y Obama, sin aparente enojo, pero con la sorpresa y tal vez el desacuerdo en su rostro, afirmó: "Este es el único".

El encuentro entre Obama y Piñera duró alrededor de una hora y se discutieron temas de relaciones bilaterales entre ambos países.

Aunque sea una reunión de trabajo existen estrictas formas de protocolo y ceremonia en la Casa Blanca.

El presidente Barack Obama recibió el martes en la Casa Blanca a Piñera y elogió el ascenso económico y democrático de la nación sudamericana, de acuerdo con la agencia AP.

Ambos mandatarios dijeron que están comprometidos a trabajar hacia un amplio acuerdo comercial en la región de Asia-Pacífico, que incluiría a los dos países.
