MIAMI (AP) — Basta de espera. ¿Conquistará el Heat de Miami un segundo campeonato seguido de la NBA? ¿Se mantendrán perfectos los Spurs de San Antonio en la quinta ocasión que disputan la gran final y le negarán un anillo por segunda vez a LeBron James?

El Heat alcanzó la final por tercer año seguido tras vencer el lunes 99-76 a los Pacers de Indiana en el séptimo partido de la final de la Conferencia del Este. Los Spurs, en cambio, estuvieron esperando desde hace rato, luego de barrer en cuatro duelos a los Grizzlies de Memphis por el cetro del Oeste.

La final arranca el jueves en Miami, mismo lugar en el que el Heat y James vencieron a Oklahoma City para consagrarse campeones el año pasado.

Miami va por su tercer campeonato, San Antonio por el quinto. Para James, esta es la oportunidad de borrar un amargo recuerdo de hace seis años.

Su primera final fue cuando jugaba con los Cavaliers de Cleveland en 2007, y el resultado fue un fiasco. Los Spurs despacharon a Cleveland en cuatro partidos para ganar su cuarto título. Esta es la primera final de San Antonio desde entonces, así que es apropiado que ahora vuelvan a citarse con James, aunque éste ahora luzca un uniforme distinto.

"Nos faltaban cosas", dijo James al recordar la final anterior ante San Antonio. "Nuestro equipo era muy bueno, pero no extraordinario. Sucumbimos ante un equipo que era mejor. Entendía que nos faltaban cosas. Seguimos mejorando con el paso de los años, pero nunca alcanzamos ese nivel".

Cuando esa serie terminó, Tim Duncan de los Spurs se acercó a James para darle ánimo.

Con cuatro galardones al jugador más valioso, dos finales de la NBA y un campeonato, James brilla más que nunca. Tiene al alcance la oportunidad de conquistar títulos consecutivos, pero también repetir el más valioso de la temporada regular y la final.

"El mejor jugador del mundo". Esa fue la descripción que el técnico de Indiana Frank Vogel dio sobre James.

Cuando el Heat y los Spurs se midan el jueves, será su tercer enfrentamiento de la temporada. Bien podría ser el primero.

Miami ganó los dos choques de la temporada regular, pero no se pueden sacar muchas conclusiones de esos partidos.

Los Spurs le dieron descanso a cuatro de sus principales figuras en el primero y la NBA les sancionó con una multa de 250.000 dólares, luego que el técnico Gregg Popovich mandó a casa a Duncan, Manu Ginóbili, Danny Green y Tony Parker previo al último compromiso de una larga gira como visitantes.

La final enfrenta a dos equipos con diversas características. El Heat es un equipo con un vistoso estilo de juego. Sus luminarias están entre los jugadores más pagados, que son el rostro publicitario de muchos productos. Son jugadores acostumbrados a los rigores de la fama.

Los Spurs, en cambio, tienen un perfil más discreto, que esquivan los reflectores.

"No diría que buscamos evitar la atención, pero tampoco es que la buscamos", dijo el delantero de los Spurs, Matt Bonner. "El pilar de este equipo es el liderazgo, con gente como Timmy (Duncan) y (el técnico) Pop, nos enfocamos en lo nuestro, que tenemos que cumplir con nuestra meta. Sobre otras distracciones, creo que no le rehuimos a eso, pero no estamos buscándolas. Creo que no, espero que no".

También se midieron a fines de marzo, justo después que una racha de 27 victorias en fila de Miami acababa de ser rota.

James, Dwyane Wade y Mario Chalmers no jugaron por dolencias físicas. El Heat ganó de todas formar por 88-86, gracias a un triple en los últimos segundos de Chris Bosh.
