LONDRES (AP) — El actor Michael Douglas le dio al mundo al menos una lección el lunes: el sexo oral a veces puede ocasionar cáncer.

En una entrevista publicada por el diario The Guardian, Douglas pareció atribuirle su propia batalla contra el cáncer de garganta al sexo oral, aunque esa interpretación fue luego refutada por sus representantes.

El Guardian citó a Douglas como atribuyéndole su enfermedad al virus VPH, que habría contraído practicando sexo oral. Cuando se le preguntó sobre su cáncer, Douglas dijo que "sin querer ser demasiado específico, este cáncer particular es causado por el VPH (virus de papiloma humano), que de hecho viene del cunnilingus".

En respuesta, el vocero Allen Burry dijo que Douglas nunca dijo que el sexo oral era la causa de su propio cáncer, sólo una de muchas causas.

"En una discusión con el periódico, hablaron de las causas del cáncer oral, una de las cuales es sexo oral, que es notable y se sabe desde hace tiempo", dijo Burry.

Las autoridades sanitarias dicen que el consumo de cigarrillos y alcohol es el principal causante del cáncer oral. El virus de papiloma humano, empero, ha sido vinculado a un tipo de cáncer de la garganta.

Douglas también le dijo al Guardian que no lamentaba los años en los que fumó y bebió.

Un vocero del Guardian dijo en un correo electrónico que el diario no ha recibido ninguna queja sobre la entrevista, ni de Douglas ni de sus representantes.

Douglas ha protagonizado numerosas películas que incluyen "Bajos instintos", "Atracción fatal" y "Wall Street". Actualmente aparece en la cinta biográfica de HBO "Behind the Candelabra", sobre Liberace. Está casado con la actriz Catherine Zeta-Jones.
