El combinado de Argentina continúa su camino rumbo al mundial de Brasil 2014 viento en popa, pues en esta ocasión no tuvo problemas para derrotar a su similar de Venezuela en el estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti (Monumental) 3-0, que lo pone más líder que nunca en la tabla de posiciones de la eliminatoria sudamericana.
El partido fue completamente desigual de principio a fin, pues desde el silbatazo inicial el cuadro pampero, comandado por Lionel Messi, se adueñó de las acciones, pero fue hasta el minuto 29 que pudo descifrar el candado defensivo que había impuesto el equipo venezolano con el gol de Gonzalo Higuaín.
Pero la jugada de la anotación del delantero del Real Madrid fue precedida por una pincelada de buen futbol del astro Lionel Messi, quien de primera intención, con pase filtrado, dejó solo a Higuaín, que no tuvo problemas para vencer al portero con fuerte disparo raso.
Argentina siguió siendo superior y, ante la inoperancia del cuadro visitante, fue casi hasta el final (44') que logró aumentar su ventaja por medio de un tiro penal, luego de que Gabriel Cichero regaló un penal increíblemente. Messi, con fuerte disparo, puso el 2-0.
La parte complementaria no cambió mucho, a pesar de que el cuadro venezolano salió con más atrevimiento, pero al 59' Argentina finiquitó las acciones con el tercer gol, que llegó en los botines de Gonzalo Higuaín, quien no obstante de estar en fuera de lugar, aprovechó otro pase de Messi para mandar el balón a las redes a la salida del portero.
Poco a poco el cuadro albiceleste bajó su ritmo de juego y consintió al rival, por lo que Venezuela tuvo llegadas claras por medio del ingresado Rómulo Otero, pero las falló; sin embargo, al final el marcador ya no se movió y el partido quedó sentenciado.
Con el triunfo, el cuadro de Alejandro Sabella llegó a 23 unidades; mientras que el combinado venezolano, que dirige César Farías, se quedó con 12 en el quinto lugar.
