Ubicados en el sótano de la tabla de posiciones del Hexagonal Final de la CONCACAF, Estados Unidos busca componer el camino y el próximo viernes ante Costa Rica es su oportunidad de "meterse a la pelea", aseveró el técnico alemán Jurgen Klinsmann.
"Como locales hay que ganar todos los puntos, el viernes tenemos que ganar aquí frente a Costa Rica, estamos enfocados en eso", dijo en conferencia de prensa.
Estados Unidos afronta un momento muy complicado pues tiene un equipo plagado de ausencias, incluida la de su símbolo, Landon Donovan, quien no está entrenando con el LA Galaxy y no fue convocado.
"Ya he vivido momentos así, cuando entrené a Alemania y con clubes, se juntan las cosas y funcionan de cierta forma", agregó.
Sobre la problemática de no contar con consagrados como Tim Howard, Steve Cherundolo, Jonathan Spector, Édgar Castillo y José Francisco 'Gringo' Torres, Klinsmann confió en que los jóvenes saquen la cara por el equipo de las barras y las estrellas.
"Lo bueno de esto es cuando alguien no puede venir, es una gran oportunidad para el que está ahí empujado y quiere mostrarse".
Estados Unidos jugará por su primera victoria el viernes en el Dick's Sporting Goods Park de Colorado. Como es costumbre la liga mexicana aportó a tres jugadores como Joe Corona, Herculez Gomez y DaMarcus Beasley. Cuatros días después deberán visitar a México en el Estadio Azteca.
