NACIONES UNIDAS (AP) — Salma Hayek aprovechó su encuentro con líderes mundiales en la ONU para decir que el problema de la violencia doméstica debería importarle especialmente a los hombres.
En un conmovedor discurso frente a diplomáticos de varias naciones, y en algunos momentos con la voz quebrada, la estrella mexicana del cine dejó clara ante la comunidad internacional su profunda preocupación por el flagelo de la violencia doméstica.
"Lo importante de estar hoy aquí y comprometerse con la causa es que necesita mucho apoyo, no sólo hoy sino todos los días. ¡Esto necesita especialmente apoyo de los hombres!", dijo en un aparte con la AP Hayek, quien confesó sentirse más nerviosa ante el público de diplomáticos que en su reciente participación como presentadora en los premios Oscar.
Representantes de varios países, entre ellos Pakistán y Liberia, escucharon atentos los llamados de atención de la actriz sobre la necesidad de colaborar en una iniciativa global contra la violencia doméstica y la falta de conocimiento de lo que viven a diario mujeres en todo el mundo.
"Una de cada tres mujeres en el mundo es víctima de esto, es increíble, tanto que hemos avanzado en la humanidad, y a la mujer todavía no se le da el respeto que se merece", dijo a la AP.
Señaló además que en el mundo no todos los países enfrentan el problema del hambre pero sí el de la violencia doméstica. Y además celebró el hecho de poder reunirse con diferentes organizaciones internacionales y conocer en persona a quienes les conmueve, al igual que a ella, la situación que se vive en todos los continentes.
"Yo nunca he tenido esto en mi familia, ni me paso a mí. Se me achina (eriza) la piel de pensar que le pasa a alguien; eso una cosa que nos ofende a todas las mujeres por igual y es una cosa que también debería ofender a todos los hombres", dijo Hayek.
