CARSON, California, EE.UU. (AP) — Mike Magee anotó una tripleta y el bicampeón Galaxy de Los Ángeles comenzó el domingo una nueva etapa sin David Beckham con una contundente victoria de 4-0 sobre el Fire de Chicago en la liga profesional del fútbol de Estados Unidos.

Magee aprovechó un pase desviado para anotar de volea a los 38 minutos. Aprovechó una asistencia de Robbie Keane para marcar su segundo a los 68 y facturó el tercero a los 74.

Magee, oriundo de Chicago, consiguió anotar tres goles en un partido por primera vez en su carrera. El delantero irlandés Keane cerró la cuenta a los 80 al aprovechar un tiro de esquina.

El Galaxy, en transición a un nuevo estilo de ataque por la partida de Beckham para jugar con el París Saint-Germain de Francia, ejerció un claro dominio.

En Portland, Oregón, los Timbers se recuperaron de dos goles del argentino Fabián Espíndola y lograron empatar 3-3 con los Red Bulls de Nueva York en el primer partido de ambas escuadras en la temporada.

Espíndola, un veterano adquirido de Real Salt Lake después de la campaña anterior, anotó a los nueve y 24 minutos, mientras que el colombiano Jamison Olave, también obtenido en el canje con RSL, agregó una diana a los 28.

El mediocampista argentino Diego Valeri consiguió su primer gol por los Timbers, que jugaron ante los 20.674 espectadores que colmaron el estadio Jeld-Wen Field. Darlington Nagbe anotó en la segunda mitad y acercó a Portland, que consiguió el empate a los 83 con un autogol cuando el balón rebotó en Olave.

Y en Santa Clara, California, el costarricense Álvaro Saborío anotó dos veces en los últimos 20 minutos, ayudando a que Real Salt Lake mantuviera al jugador más valioso Chris Wondolowski fuera de la planilla de resultados y vencer 2-0 a los Earthquakes de San José la noche del domingo.

El partido se mantuvo sin goles hasta los 71 minutos, cuando Saborío adelantó a dos defensores de San José y alcanzó un pase que Joao Plata coló a la línea defensiva de los Earthquakes.

Saborío, máximo goleador del Real Salt Lake en cada una de las últimas tres temporadas, terminó la jugada con una fuerte patada de derecha desde los 17 metros (yardas), que superó al arquero de San José Jon Busch.

Real Salt Lake consiguió su segundo gol en el minuto 85, cuando Kyle Beckerman —quien hizo su tricentenaria aparición en la MLS— encontró sin marca a Saborío. El internacional costarricense tiró desde los 11 metros para meter el gol de zurdazo.
