Los cardenales iniciarán el próximo lunes deliberaciones previas a la celebración del Cónclave para elegir al nuevo Papa, también conocidas como "Congregaciones Generales", informó el vocero del Vaticano, Federico Lombardi.

Esa fecha fue anunciada directamente por el decano del Colegio Cardenalicio, Angelo Sodano, esta mañana poco antes del encuentro que unos 144 purpurados sostuvieron con Benedicto XVI en la Sala Clementina del Palacio Apostólico.

Benedicto XVI saludó por última vez como papa a los fieles desde el balcón de la residencia papal de Castel Gandolfo, donde planea permanecer hasta que esté preparada su residencia definitiva en el Vaticano.
