Para el invicto mexicano Abner Mares toda oportunidad viene con un riesgo y está dispuesto a correrlo.

Mares Martínez está cerca de firmar la pelea con el campeón Daniel Ponce de León por la corona Pluma del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo y aseguró que no descansará hasta conquistar su tercera corona en diferente división, aunque su calidad de invicto se juegue en cada pelea.

"Si es un riesgo, pero quiero ganar. Ahora se me da esta gran oportunidad y me siento muy afortunado, pues en relativamente poco tiempo he logrado lo que pocos. Voy por mi tercera división", dijo a HuffPost Voces, el ex olímpico mexicano quien participó en los Juegos de Atenas 2004.

El tapatío de 27 años de edad, quien decidió subir a los pluma a raíz de que no se concretó la pelea ante el filipino Nonito Donaire, ha reinado la división de los pesos Gallo para la Federación Internacional de Boxeo (durante ocho meses y una defensa) y la de los Supergallo del Consejo Mundial de Boxeo (en siete meses y una exposición).

"Se que conlleva grandes riesgos lo que estoy haciendo, pues no calaré la pegada de la división primero y enfrentaré a uno de los peleadores con pegada más fuerte, pero no me gustan las cosas sencillas, quiero retos fuertes y soy afortunado por tener la oportunidad de pelear en tan poco tiempo por mi tercera corona", abundó el peleador que tiene entre su récord victorias ante el armenio Vic Darchinyan, el panameño Anselmo Moreno o el ghanés Joseph Agbeko.

Abner Mares señaló que ya se encuentra en entrenamiento pues se le notificó que la pelea podrá darse el 18 de mayo en Los Ángeles, California.

"Ya inicié mi preparación pues tengo el tiempo suficiente para llegar con una buena base física. Ponce de León es un gran campeón y muy complicado, pero no invencible. Lo comparo un poco con Vic Darchinyan, todos decían que no le ganaría y terminé venciéndolo", explicó Abner.

Abner comentó que a Daniel Ponce de León lo conoce más allá del ring, pues comparten la misma promotora y lo calificó como una buena persona y amigo, pero que eso no interferirá la noche de la pelea.

"Me otorgaron esta oportunidad y no la dejaré ir. Abajo del ring podemos llevarnos bien, pero arriba será otra cosa. Hay cosas en juego y no las tomo a la ligera", dijo.

El invicto, sólo un elemento

Por otra parte el peleador mexicano radicado en Los Ángeles, comentó que el hecho de poner sobre la linea su récord sin derrota en cada pelea dejó de ser un motivo más de presión.

Desde su debut, en enero del 2005, Abner ha logrado mantener una foja de 25 triunfos, 13 nocauts y un empate.

"Yo no temo perder, sé que la carrera de un peleador no se acaba después de una derrota. Es algo que se pone en riesgo y estoy consciente. Sé que si pierdo lo haré contra un buen peleador, pues siempre busco los retos más grandes", finalizó Abner.
