En una jornada histórica para las Artes Marciales Mixtas (MMA por sus siglas en inglés) con el debut de las mujeres en el UFC, el resultado del evento principal fue apenas una anécdota. Ronda Rousey, campeona de peso gallo, defendió su cinturón al someter a los 4:49 segundos del primer asalto a Liz Carmouche, la flamante retadora que estuvo cerca de concretar la hazaña. Rousey finaliza una vez más con la llave de brazo, maniobra con la que doblegó a todas sus anteriores rivales en lo que va de su corta carrera como profesional.

Lo que parecía impensado hace un par de años es hoy una realidad. Dos mujeres en la marquesina del UFC, siendo protagonistas de la pelea de fondo de un evento. La campeona más sexy de las Artes Marciales Mixtas, Ronda Rousey, cumplió con lo que se esperaba de ella. Ronda sufrió en los primeros instantes del combate, cuando Carmouche logró aferrarse a su espalda e intentó cerrar el mataleón. La retadora puso a prueba a la campeona y mostró sus garras. Rousey fue fría y calculadora, esperando el momento preciso para sacudir a su rival al suelo. Superado el transe de los primeros instantes, ¨Rowdy¨ inclinó las acciones en su favor, controlando a su rival desde la montada cruzada y propinando una serie de golpes de puño al rostro de forma ininterrumpida que hicieron mella en la retadora. Ronda aguardó pacientemente la apertura y colocó su cuerpo en forma perpendicular al de su rival, presagiando el final que todos aguardaban. La llave de brazo no se hizo esperar. La campeona rodó en el suelo con su oponente con gran fluidez y nunca perdió el brazo. Carmouche intentó defender de forma heroica, pero era sólo una cuestión de tiempo para que su brazo se hiperextienda y el dolor articular provoque la rendición automática.

Carmouche demostró coraje para ir a buscar la pelea y eso debe ser valorado. La retadora tenía todo por ganar y poco que perder. Todas las miradas se iban con Rousey y eso liberó de toda presión a la ex marine del Ejército de los Estados Unidos quien aprovechó la exposición mediática para sacar a la luz su homosexualidad.

Ronda Rousey, primera medallista olímpica del cuadro femenino de judo en los Estados Unidos, demostró que, pese a su corta experiencia en las MMA, es una legítima campeona del UFC. Con toda una vida dedicada al deporte marcial, Ronda posee la disciplina y el carácter para superarse día a día, dos de las virtudes más importantes en este deporte. Rousey es una atleta con todas las letras.
