Después de que Nonito Donaire amenazara con cancelar la pelea pues el cubano Guillermo Rigondeaux se firmaba el contrato para ser examinado por la VADA (Asociación de Doping Voluntario), las negociaciones llegaron a buen termino ahora que el isleño de 32 años aceptara firmar.

“El único problema es que Rigondeaux quería un contrato en español. Los peleadores quieren que esta sea un pelea totalmente limpia”, dijo Bob Arum, promotor del evento durante la presentación oficial de la contienda que tendrá lugar el 13 de abril en el Radio City Music Hall en Nueva York.

El abogado explicó que durante el proceso la VADA y otro organismo que será integrado a los exámenes, entregarán los resultados de manera confidencial a la Comisión Atlética de Nueva York.

“La Comisión de Nueva York será la única que tendrá jurisdicción para revelar los reportes. Tenemos confianza en el sistema. Realmente creemos que este es el camino a seguir para el deporte. Estamos a favor de las pruebas de drogas, pero queremos que se haga de una manera ordenada, no con el salvajismo que hemos visto con algunos de estos eventos en el pasado”, abundó Arum.

Nonito Donaire – quien esperó una hora a que el cubano firmara el acuerdo para después proceder al anuncio del encuentro - es el único peleador que se somete a pruebas aleatorias de doping desde hace varios años y asegura que lo hace porque todo lo que tiene es por el boxeo y quiere regresar credibilidad a este deporte.

“Ellos entrenarán duro, yo entrenaré duro. El 13 de abril será el día en que la gente sepa quién es el mejor. Aún creo que a Rigondeaux le hace falta experiencia”, dijo en su turno al micrófono.

La pelea entre Filipino Flash y Rigondeaux será de unificación Supergallo de las coronas de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo y de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo, respectivamente.
