LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — Doce hinchas brasileños fueron detenidos por sospecha de haber provocado la muerte de un aficionado boliviano al lanzar un artefacto explosivo en el partido que disputaron San José y Corinthians por la Copa Libertadores el miércoles en la ciudad boliviana de Oruro, informó la policía.

Los fanáticos pasaron la noche en celdas policiales y en las próximas horas serán llevados ante un juez cautelar que podría enviarlos a la cárcel para ser enjuiciados, dijo por teléfono a The Associated Press el coronel Antenor Medrano.

Desde Asunción, la Conmebol pidió a la Federación Boliviana de Fútbol un completo informe del incidente para que el tribunal de disciplina analice el caso y, eventualmente, dicte sanciones.

"La Conmebol y en especial el presidente Nicolás Leoz lamenta el fallecimiento del menor de 14 años porque la pérdida de una vida siempre es dolorosa, más aún porque el hecho ocurrió en un escenario del fútbol que reúne a personas que desean disfrutar de un partido de Copa Libertadores", dijo el jueves a la AP el vocero del organismo rector del fútbol sudamericano, Néstor Benítez.

El incidente ocurrió tras el primer gol marcado por el campeón Corinthians a los cinco minutos, lo que desató la algarabía de medio centenar de seguidores brasileños apostados en las graderías del estadio Jesús Bermúdez.

"Hay suficientes evidencias que ellos (hinchas brasileños) lanzaron el artefacto que al parecer es un señalizador (bengala)", explicó el director de la policía.

La víctima fue identificada como Kevin Beltrán Estrada, un niño de 14 años que murió al llegar al hospital. El tubo de plástico del explosivo penetró por el ojo derecho y produjo un traumatismo craneal y hemorragia interna en la víctima, explicó el médico José María Vargas.

La policía todavía no ha determinado el tipo de explosivo. Un forense hará la autopsia y extraerá del cráneo el artefacto de unos 20 centímetros, acotó el médico.

Según Medrano, entre los hinchas del Corinthians había estudiantes brasileños residentes en Bolivia y fanáticos que llegaron de Brasil.

El partido no fue interrumpido y concluyó empatado 1-1 por el Grupo 5 de la Copa Libertadores. El arbitraje estaba a cargo del ecuatoriano Carlos Vera.

"Quiero pedir disculpas; estamos muy apenados", dijo el director técnico de Corinthians, Tite, al concluir el encuentro el miércoles en la noche.

La Conmebol "espera que las autoridades bolivianas investiguen el acontecimiento fatal y nuestro tribunal solicitó todos los informes del árbitro y de los delegados deportivos a fin de reunir la mayor cantidad de datos", dijo Benítez.
