La semana pasada, como se recordará, al Senador Marco Rubio, republicano de Florida y una estrella naciente en el firmamento político de su agrupación, le tocó pronunciar el discurso de respuesta del GOP a la alocución anual del Presidente Obama que se da en llamar Estado de la Nación.

Y lo que, precisamente, se recuerda de aquella intervención del joven cubanoamericano es que a medio discurso, Rubio se detuvo, se agachó, recogió una minúscula botella de agua, tomó unos sorbos, la colocó de vuelta, lo más lejos posible de sí, y siguió el discurso, todo el tiempo sin despegar la mirada de la cámara. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/12/marco-rubio-speech_n_2674070.html

El incidente le dio tanta fama al político – un adepto del movimiento Tea Party – que en algunos círculos comenzaron a preguntarse si no era el comienzo del fin de su carrera política, que apunta ni más ni menos que a la presidencia de Estados Unidos como supuesto favorito de los latinos.

Sin embargo, el comité de acción política (PAC, en inglés) de Rubio, llamado Reclaim America, se apropió del momento de torpeza e inexperiencia y lo manipuló a su favor, encargando botellas de agua de marca “Rubio” y vendiéndolas en su sitio, al ritmo de al menos 125,000 dólares.

“Hasta ahora vendimos más de 4,200 botellas en cinco días”, dijo a NBC Miami un portavoz del comité. Los donantes contribuyen un mínimo de 25 dólares, con opciones de hasta 250 por la botella roja y blanca.
