SAO PAULO (AP) — Un incendio en un carro alegórico dejó el martes cuatro personas muertas y cinco heridas en la ciudad portuaria brasileña de Santos.

Un funcionario del departamento de bomberos dijo que el carro alegórico quedó envuelto en llamas al amanecer, poco después de que terminara de desfilar la escuela de samba Sangue Jovem (Sangre Joven).

El funcionario solicitó el anonimato porque no estaba autorizado a hacer declaraciones a la prensa.

Dijo que tres de las víctimas fatales empujaban el carro alegórico. Una mujer que observaba el desfile fue la cuarta. Se desconocía de inmediato el estado de los cinco heridos.

Según funcionarios, los testigos informaron que el carro alegórico se incendió después de golpear un cable de electricidad.

El alcalde de Santos, Paulo Alexandre Barbosa, suspendió el desfile cuando faltaba la presentación de tres escuelas.
