PARK CITY, Utah, EE.UU. (AP) — Mucho cuero y mucho sexo acompañan a James Franco en este momento de su vida.

El actor y cineasta de 34 años participa en tres películas que se exhiben en el Festival de Cine de Sundance que lidian con sexo, pornografía, ataduras y disciplina.

"Supongo que es algo que me atrae", dijo Franco en una entrevista en el marco de la vitrina anual del cine independiente.

Franco codirigió, produjo y protagonizó "Interior. Leather Bar.", inspirado en los segmentos cortados de la película de culto de William Friedkin "Cruising" de 1980 para poder obtener clasificación R (menores de 17 años deben ir acompañados por un padre o representante adulto). Produjo "kink", un documental sobre Kink.com, principal productora de pornografía con ataduras y disciplina. Y además encarna a Hugh Hefner en "Lovelace", que se estrena el martes en Sundance y relata la historia de la estrella del clásico porno "Garganta profunda" Linda Lovelace.

Según Franco, es sólo una coincidencia que las tres películas se exhiban este año en Sundance.

"Quise explorar el sexo real en el cine pero de un modo que no fuera pornográfico, sino más bien sobre el comportamiento: el acto como algo que revelaría a un personaje o una historia", explicó sobre la inspiración para "Interior. Leather Bar."

No sabía mucho sobre sadomasoquismo hasta que descubrió las instalaciones de Kink.com mientras trabajaba en otro proyecto, pero quedó instantáneamente fascinado.

"Es un tipo de actuación muy especializada", dijo Franco. "En Kink, lo que el público espera es que (los actores) realmente atraviesen el tipo de dolor que se les inflige. Y ni la gente que opera Kink ni los espectadores quieren ver nada falso, así que es un nuevo tipo de actuación. Es como arte performance".

Franco dijo que experimentó algo similar durante el rodaje de "127 horas", por cuya actuación fue nominado a un Oscar. Mientras interpretaba al alpinista varado Aron Ralston, Franco se golpeó adrede contra las rocas durante algunas tomas para sentir el dolor y el cansancio en carne propia.

"No estaba actuando mi cansancio y me puedo identificar en ese sentido, sólo que ese es el tipo de actuación que ellos realizan todo el tiempo", dijo. "Para mí es fascinante como actor y como cineasta".

"Las cosas pueden volverse tan comunes en cualquier área del comportamiento humano... que si encuentro algo inusual que va contra de lo establecido, algo que no veo todos los días, me llama la atención", agregó.

"Me pareció que este era el microcosmos perfecto que estudiar... y al mismo tiempo hablar de temas más amplios, del modo en que interactuamos y de la dinámica del poder entre las personas, estén usando ataduras o no".
