CIUDAD DE MÉXICO - El 87% de efectividad en sus partidos en 2012 y la medalla de oro en los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres tienen muy optimista a la selección mexicana que tiene objetivos tan altos como el campeonato de la próxima Copa Confederaciones.

El 'Tri' inició formalmente sus actividades este 2013 y lo hizo con una reunión con la prensa en el Centro de Alto Rendimiento de esta ciudad. Ahí, el mensaje fue claro: México buscará uno de los cuatro primeros lugares en la Confederaciones de Brasil donde habrá selecciones de la talla de España, Italia y los anfitriones.

"Hay que estar conscientes del nivel del torneo, pero las semifinales son el objetivo, ya después todo puede pasar", dijo Héctor González Iñárritu, responsable de los combinados mexicanos.

Y es que los últimos éxitos mexicanos a nivel juvenil hacen que la percepción de propios y extraños sea diferente a la hora de enfrentar a los verdes, aseguró el entrenador, José Manuel de la Torre.

"A México ya lo ven con otros ojos por los resultados, eso llama la atención y por supuesto que nos ven de otra manera", dijo.

Con su clásico estilo parco, el 'Chepo' negó que sea aventurado pensar en ganar el torneo: "¿Por qué atrevido? (pensar en ser campeón). Nadie creía que podíamos ganar en los Juegos Olímpicos y ahí está, no es fácil, pero estamos buscando, haremos lo posible".

De la Torre reiteró que desde su gestión, el equipo tricolor va a todos los torneos para ganar, no sólo a ser un participante:

"Más que presión nosotros buscamos una superación en todos los aspectos, siempre menciono que llegamos a todas las competencias para ganarlas. La presión siempre va a existir cuando tengas algún trabajo, todo depende de como la quieras manejar".

Pese al entusiasmo con el que se asume el torneo de Confederaciones, el objetivo principal es clasificar a la Copa del Mundo a través del Hexagonal Final de la CONCACAF que comienza en febrero, aseguró el timonel mexicano.

La selección mexicana comparte el Grupo A de la Copa Confederaciones con Brasil, Italia y Japón.

Carlos Vela, apto para regresar a la selección

Pese a sus constantes desaires, De la Torre abrió las puertas de la selección a Carlos Vela, delantero de la Real Sociedad de la Liga española, que atraviesa por un buen momento futbolístico.

"Creo que en su momento lo explicamos. Él tomó la decisión de no ir a Juegos Olímpicos por su futuro, para consolidarse, ha ido mejorando, ha ido llevando bien su carrera para tener argumentos. Eso nos deja claro que lo que platicamos con él lo ha llevado bien acabo".

México jugará su próximo encuentro el 30 de enero en la Unión Americana ante Dinamarca.
