GINEBRA (AP) — La UEFA suspendió de todas sus competencias europeas por una temporada al Málaga, por las deudas que el club tiene con sus jugadores y las autoridades tributarias.

El organismo rector del fútbol europeo señaló que el club español, propiedad de qataríes, podría ser suspendido por una segunda temporada en los próximos cuatro años si no cumple con el plazo del 31 de marzo para saldar sus deudas, que incluirían 9 millones de euros (11,6 millones de dólares) en salarios de jugadores.

Málaga publicó un comunicado en el que critica las medidas "desproporcionadas e injustificadas" de la UEFA, que quiere que sus clubes paguen sus deudas y no tengan pérdidas en sus actividades deportivas para cumplir con su reglamento de "Fair Play" económico.

La UEFA anunció las sanciones el viernes, un día después que el Málaga participó en el sorteo de los octavos de final de la Liga de Campeones en los que enfrentará al Porto. La sanción aplica si se clasifica a la Liga de Campeones o la Liga Europa en cualquiera de las próximas cuatro temporadas.

El tribunal financiero de la UEFA también le impuso una multa de 300.000 euros (396.000 dólares). El equipo puede apelar ante el Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo.

"Ante la total y absoluta indignación y consternación en el seno de la entidad, el Málaga Club de Fútbol quiere manifestar que trabajará enérgicamente y sin descanso hasta conseguir que se haga justicia, recurriendo con firmeza a todos los organismos que sean necesarios", indicó el Málaga en un comunicado.

Málaga debe recibir unos 25 millones de euros (33 millones de dólares) en premios de la UEFA, además de una tajada de los ingresos de televisión, por su participación en la Champions de este año.

El equipo dirigido por el chileno Manuel Pellegrini se clasificó por primera vez al torneo de clubes más importante del mundo al terminar cuarto en la pasada liga española.

El club se ubicó entre la élite del fútbol español tras ser comprado por el jeque Abdullah Bin Nasser Al-Thani, que aportó los fondos para fichar a varias estrellas, aunque esta temporada implementó medidas de austeridad y se deshizo de algunos de sus jugadores más caros.

Málaga, que marcha cuarto en la liga española esta temporada, también negó que tenga deudas de salarios y de cuotas de transferencias.

"Pese a todas las informaciones que han podido aparecer con respecto a compromisos no cumplidos por la entidad con el C.A. Osasuna o los propios jugadores de la plantilla blanquiazul, el Málaga Club de Fútbol afirma con rotundidad que dichos compromisos se han afrontado según lo acordado", afirmó la directiva.
