Londres — El capitán de Chelsea, John Terry, fue descartado el viernes para el Mundial de Clubes debido a las lesiones que lo han aquejado esta temporada.

El zaguero se lastimó los ligamentos de la rodilla derecha hace un mes, y los médicos temen que el largo vuelo a Japón podría afectar su recuperación.

"La inflamación durante el vuelo será perjudicial para él, así que no viajará", comentó el técnico de Chelsea, Rafa Benítez. "El quería ir y ayudar, pero es mejor que se quede aquí".

"No sabemos cuándo jugará. Tenemos que esperar y ver cómo reacciona".

El primer partido de Chelsea en el Mundial de Clubes es el miércoles en semifinales contra el ganador del partido entre Ulsan Hyundai de Corea del Sur y Monterrey de México.

Chelsea obtuvo su boleto al torneo al ganar en mayo la Liga de Campeones de Europa.
