El conjunto turco de Galatasaray aprovechó que la escuadra del Manchester United jugó con un equipo alternativo para quitarle el invicto en la Champions League, luego de derrotarlo por la mínima diferencia en el Turk Telekom Arena, en juego correspondiente a la quinta fecha de la fase de grupos del certamen.

Con la victoria, la escuadra turca continúa en la lucha por un boleto en el Grupo H, luego de llegar a siete unidades, mismas que la escuadra del CFR Cluj Napoca -que venció en esta fecha 3-1 al Braga-; mientras que el cuadro inglés se quedó con 12 unidades, pero firme en el primer lugar de este sector.

EL JUEGO
Ante la necesidad de llevarse un triunfo de su estadio para seguir con vida en esta fase, el cuadro del Galatasaray se fue con todo desde los primeros minutos en busca de un gol, el cual estuvo a punto de conseguir en los botines de Burak Yilmaz, tras disapro de larga distancia.

El cuadro turco se adueñó del balón y echó en su terreno de juego a los Diablos, pero el portero Lindegaard evitó que el marcador se moviera gracias a sus atajadas, la más clara fue a un fuerte cañonazo de Altintop al 34', en la que el arquero con buen lance evitó que la pelota se fuera al fondo.

Manchester trató de contragolpear, pero sus ataques lucieron muy chatos, pues tanto Danny Welbeck como Javier Hernández lucieron muy solos en la zona delantera, sin que hubiera un hombre en el mediocampo que los pudiera proyectar al frente con ventaja.

Y a pesar de que la escuadra local fue la que estuvo intentando con disparos de todos lados para abrir el marcador, sin que sus jugadores tuvieran suerte para pconseguirlo, fue el cuadro del ManU que el final de la primera parte (43') estuvo más cerca del gol en un cabezazo de Nick Powell que pegó en el palo, luego de rematar un centro a tiro de esquina de Tom Cleverley.

Para la parte complementaria, el equipo turco salió con la misma intensidad de la primera parte, trató de presionar al rival desde la salida para recuparar el balón, siendo lo más peligroso que pudo hacer en los primeros minutos fue un tiro de Albert Riera, que en el fondo el portero logró detener.

Y después de un atajadón de Lindegaard a cabezazo de Felipe Melo al 53', en la siguiente jugada cayó el primer gol del partido. Luego de que en el tiro de esquina, el delantero Burak Yilmaz le ganó la pelota a su marcador para conectar de cabeza y enviarla al fondo.

Con la anotación en contra, Manchester United trató de reaccionar por medio de Javier Hernández y Anderson, pero el portero uruguayo Fernando Muslera estuvo atento y evitó la caída de su marco.

El partido fue un ir y venir en ambas porterías, pero el conjunto del Galatasay fue el que estuvo más cerca del segundo, luego de que al 77' un fuerte disparo de derecha de Altintop fuera del área grande cimbró la parte superior del poste del portero visitante.

El final fue de alarido, pues en ambas porterías pudo haber caído el gol, por lo que el tiempo llegó a su fin y el cuadro turco se llevó la victoria merecidamente.
