El delantero argentino Lionel Messi se volvió a destapar con dos goles para que su equipo goleara en el estadio Son Moix al conjunto de Mallorca 4-2, que de este modo ligó su sexto descalabro consecutivo en la Liga BBVA, poniendo en jaque la continuidad de su timonel Joaquín Caparrós.
Con las dos dianas del atacante rosarino llegó a 15 en la liga, además de superar el récord del astro brasileño Pelé con más goles en una temporada (1959, con 75 goles), luego de arribar a 76; con esta nueva victoria el cuadro catalán arribó a 31 puntos; mientras que el conjunto bermellón se quedó con 11 puntos en el lugar 16 de la tabla general.
El partido fue difícil al inicio para el conjunto culé, ya que el cuadro de Mallorca se organizó bien en su zona defensiva; sin embargo, fue hasta el minuto 28 que el cuadro visitante logró descifrar el candado bermellón con el gol de Xavi mediante un tiro libre ala altura de la media luna.
A partir de este momento, Barcelona tomó más confianza y casi al finalizar el primer tiempo logró aumentar su ventaja con el gol de Lionel Messi al 44', luego de un error del portero rival que no pudo atajar un débil disparo del argentino; y un minuto después Cristian Tello consiguió el tercero para su equipo.
Para el segundo tiempo, Mallorca se fue con todo e increíblemente logró acercarse en el marcador con dos anotaciones, luego de los goles del francés Pereira y un penal bien ejecutado de Víctor Casadesús, por lo que el partido empezó a vivir sus mejores momentos.
Pero una buena jugada del ingresado Alexis Sánchez con Lionel Messi al minuto 70 volvió a poner las cosas en su lugar, luego de que el delantero chileno le bajara con el pecho la pelota al argentino, que dentro del área grande se acomodó el balón de zurda y con fuerte disparo mandó al fondo de las redes.
En los minutos finales, Barcelona estuvo más cerca del quinto que el Mallorca del tercero, pero el marcador ya no se movió.
