De nueva cuenta, el delantero uruguayo Luis Suárez se convirtió en el héroe de su equipo, pues con su gol logró que el Liverpool rescatara un valioso empate a un gol en Stamford Bridge ante la escuadra de Chelsea, que sigue dejando escapar puntos en la Premier League en su terreno de juego.
El conjunto de los Blues continúa perdiendo su paso en la liga, pues de los últimos nueve puntos solamente ha podido rescatar dos, por lo que ahora se encuentra a tres puntos del líder general (Manchester United); mientras que el equipo de los Reds sumaron su sexto partido sin derrota, pero cuatro de ellos han sido igualadas, que lo dejan en el lugar 13 de la liga con 12 unidades.
El partido fue bien jugado por parte del conjunto del Chelsea en la primera parte, pero no logró aprovechar sus oportunidades de gol, la única que pudo concretar fue al minuto 19 en un cabezazo de John Terry, quien le ganó la marca a su adversario y mandó al fondo la pelota. Más tarde este jugador salió lesionado por un fuerte golpe en su pierna izquierda.
Para la parte complementaria, el encuentro se jugó más en el medio campo, siendo el cuadro local el que tuvo más tiempo la redonda; sin embargo, en un descuido de su zaga al minuto 73 en un tiro de esquina cayó el gol del empate, luego de que Luis Suárez conectara con la cabeza un desvío de su compañero Jamie Carragher para mandar al fondo.
Con el gol en contra, Chelsea bajó su juego, por lo que al final del cotejo el conjunto de Liverpool estuvo más cerca de la anotación del triunfo, pero Luis Suárez y el español José Enrique dejaron escapar claras oportunidades gracias a la buena actuación del portero Petr Cech, por lo que el partido quedó sentenciado con el empate.
