Sin emplearse mucho a fondo, la escuadra del Real Madrid simplemente aprovechó los errores del rival para salir avante en el estadio Son Moixel, luego de humillar al conjunto de Mallorca 5-0 en su propia casa, destacando las actuaciones de Cristiano Ronaldo y Gonzalo Higuáin, quienes consiguieron dos goles cada uno.
El encuentro empezó parejo; sin embargo, en el primer descuido bermellón se marcó el rumbo del partido, luego de un error del zaguero Anderson Conceicao al 7', a quien le rebotó mal la pelota en el área grande para dejársela a Higuaín, que no tuvo problemas para resolver de derecha.
A partir de este momento, Real Madrid tomó más confianza y al 22' en otro error en la salida del Mallorca logró aumentar su ventaja, en esta ocasión fue Cristiano Ronaldo el que no perdonó para mandar al fondo.
Con los dos goles en contra, el cuadro local trató de reaccionar, siendo el mexicano Giovani dos Santos el motor de su equipo, pero sin poder profundizar en el área merengue, por lo que ambos conjuntos ya no se hicieron daño y se fueron al descanso.
Para la parte complementaria, el timonel del Mallorca sacó a Giovani y el equipo perdió fuerza en su zona delantera; sin embargo, sin hacer mucho la escuadra del Real Madrid, en menos de cinco minutos encontró dos goles más.
La primera de ellas llegó al minuto 70 en los botines de Higuaín, gracias a un excelente pase filtrado de Ronaldo, en el que el delantero argentino no tuvo problemas para vencer al portero Dudu Aouate.
Pero la cortesía se la regresó el romperredes pampero a Ronaldo, ya que el minuto 73 le puso un pase a profundidad en el que el delantero lusitano de derecha mandó la pelota a visitar las redes de nueva cuenta.
Ya en los minutos finales, el cuadro merengue todavía se dio el lujo de meter el quinto gol, luego de que en tiempo de compensación Mesut Ozil por el lado izquierdo mandó tiro-centro a la llegada de José María Callejón, quien sentenció el marcador.
