CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — El presidente Hugo Chávez bromeó el viernes diciendo que hay tantos venezolanos jugando en la Serie Mundial que el próximo año debería jugarse en ese país sudamericano.

Este año una cifra récord total de nueve peloteros venezolanos están en las nóminas de los Gigantes San Francisco y los Tigres de Detroit. Chávez subrayó durante una reunión de gabinete televisada la noche del viernes que si las alineaciones iniciales de ambos equipos se juntan, los venezolanos representan la tercera parte de los jugadores.

Se refirió al presidente estadounidense Barack Obama y bromeó: "Yo creo que la próxima Serie Mundial van a tener que jugarla, Obama, aquí en Venezuela, porque esto es venezolanos por todos lados, ah, de los que están en juego, de cada tres, uno es venezolano, son 18 y los nuestros son seis en play, y además tenemos unos pitchers y unos de reservas".

El mandatario venezolano elogió al bateador de poder de los Gigantes Pablo Sandoval por conectar tres cuadrangulares en el primer juego.

"¿Qué harían en las Grandes Ligas si no existiera Venezuela? Oye, se aburrirían. Dígame tres jonrones además, tres jonrones le metió el muchacho de Puerto Cabello... ¿cómo es que le dicen?.. Kung Fu Panda; por el right field, por el left field y por el center field, y después metió una línea que si la levanta mete el cuarto (jonrón), pero fue una línea muy fuerte, pero de hit", agregó.
