RACINE, Wisconsin, EE.UU. (AP) — La primera dama Michelle Obama despierta más opiniones favorables que su marido, cuyo equipo de campaña ha decidido enviarla a estados cruciales para ayudar a que el mandatario recupere la ventaja que se ha reducido, a dos semanas de los comicios presidenciales.
"¿Saben qué se siente en esta habitación? Se siente como que estaremos cuatro años más aquí", dijo la esposa de Barack Obama en referencia a un nuevo mandato, ante unos 2.500 espectadores que la ovacionaron en Wisconsin. Algunos esperaron la noche entera en el sitio para verla.
Michelle Obama puede dar argumentos que nadie más puede esgrimir en favor de su marido durante la contienda contra el republicano Mitt Romney, dijo Anita McBride, quien dirigió la oficina de otra primera dama, Laura Bush.
"La primera dama siempre resulta positiva para un par de aspectos importantes", explicó McBride. "Una es el lado humano del presidente, ver quién es mediante la lente de la esposa, que es siempre única".
Una de las partes que Michelle Obama prefiere de la campaña es que ésta le brinda la capacidad de elogiar a su marido sin que la escuche, según dijo al público en Wisconsin. "Así que no le digan cuánto lo amo en realidad... Esto queda entre ustedes y yo", dijo.
McBride opinó que Michelle Obama es talentosa para los actos de campaña y muestra más entusiasmo ahora que en 2008. Al comienzo de aquella campaña, pareció reacia a hablar en nombre de su marido.
"A ella nunca le fascinó el juego político, y fue honesta al respecto" en 2008, dijo McBride. Pero este año, "se siente cómoda en la palestra. Aporta mucha energía y está aquí para ganar la elección".
Los discursos proselitistas de la primera dama combinan aspectos privados y políticos. Ofrecen vistazos de la vida en la Casa Blanca y revelan motivos por los que se casó con el mandatario, cuyas políticas y carácter defiende apasionadamente.
Implora a las multitudes que voten, e insta a familiares y amigos a que hagan lo propio.
"Estas elecciones serán más cerradas que las anteriores. Eso es lo único seguro", dijo Michelle Obama.
El jueves, la primera dama viaja a Hollywood para aparecer en el programa nocturno de Jimmy Kimmel en la televisión y para recaudar fondos con el actor Will Smith.
Jeremy Bird, director nacional de campo de la campaña de Obama, consideró que su esposa es una "campeona en ganar el apoyo del ciudadano común".
