Con un gol de último minuto, el delantero colombiano Radamel Falcao le dio el triunfo al Atlético de Madrid por la mínima diferencia ante la Real Sociedad en el mismísimo estadio de Anoeta, con lo que el conjunto madrileño se mantiene en segundo lugar de la tabla general del futbol español.
La escuadra del director técnico Diego Simeone nunca dejó de luchar, por lo que al final del cotejo una pincelada de tiro libre de su mejor hombre le dio los tres puntos, mientras que el conjunto local tuvo también sus oportunidades, pero sus atacantes, entre ellos el mexicano Carlos Vela, fallaron en el último toque.
Luego de la pertinaz lluvia que estuvo cayendo durante el cotejo, ambos conjuntos no pudieron llevar su futbol de toque; sin embargo, fue la escuadra de la Real Sociedad que logró tener las mejores acciones, pero no logró reflejarlo en la pizarra, por lo que se fueron al descanso con la igualada a ceros goles.
Para el segundo tiempo, Atlético salió en otra sintonía y con mayor intensidad en el ataque, este comandado por Koke, Radamel Falcao y Mario Suárez, que lograron poner en aprietos al portero Zubikarai.
Sin embargo, también el cuadro de la Sociedad logró generar sus llegadas más peligrosas, la más clara estuvo a cargo de Carlos Vela, quien por el corredor derecho entró solo con toda la ventaja, pero su tiro increíblemente lo mandó a las tribunas.
Y cuando el partido se pensaba que terminaría con el empate, luego de un dominio alterno en los últimos 15 minutos de ambos cuadros, el delantero colombiano al 89', fuera del área grande -recargado del lado izquierdo-, sacó disparo de derecha en tiro libre que se fue al fondo de las redes al lado derecho del portero, sentenciando de este modo el triunfo de su escuadra.
