DETROIT (AP) — Max Scherzer concretó un desempeño estupendo en la rotación de abridores de Detroit, el dominicano Jhonny Peralta produjo tres carreras, y los Tigres avanzaron el jueves a la Serie Mundial por segunda vez en los últimos siete años al derrotar por 8-1 a los Yanquis de Nueva York para barrerlos en la Serie de Campeonato de la Liga Americana.

El venezolano Miguel Cabrera y Peralta batearon cuadrangular de dos carreras en un ataque de cuatro anotaciones en la cuarta entrada contra CC Sabathia, quien fue incapaz de evitar que los Yanquis fueran barridos en una serie de postemporada por primera vez en 32 años.

"Sí, lo hicimos", dijo Cabrera. "Es un sentimiento increíble. ... Cuatro victorias más, muchachos. Cuatro victorias más", agregó.

Scherzer lanzó sin permitir hit hasta el sexto episodio contra una alineación inicial de Nueva York que nuevamente no contó con Alex Rodríguez, quien fue dominado en un elevado con dos corredores en los senderos en la sexta entrada como bateador emergente.

Austin Jackson agregó un cuadrangular solitario en el séptimo episodio por Detroit, y Peralta puso la bola sobre la cerca nuevamente un capítulo después.

El juego terminó con el primera base Prince Fielder, costosa adquisición de Detroit en el receso de temporada, pidiendo jubilosamente a sus compañeros que lo dejarán atrapar el elevado corto de Jayson Nix para el último out. El resto de los Tigres invadió el terreno para una celebración que comenzó cerca de la segunda base y se fue moviendo hacia la línea de la tercera base.

Detroit ganó su 11er título de la Liga Americana y primero desde 2006. Los Tigres tienen cinco días de descanso antes de que inicie el miércoles la Serie Mundial contra el campeón defensor San Luis o el campeón de 2010 San Francisco.

Después de anotar en sólo tres de las 39 entradas durante la serie, Nueva York se va a casa a enfrentar preguntas desagradables sobre su futuro después de una postemporada con pésimo bateo, con astros enviados a la banca y veteranos mostrando el peso de la edad.

Rodríguez, tercera base de 275 millones de dólares, estuvo fuera de la alineación titular por tercera ocasión en la postemporada. Derek Jeter y el pitcher cerrador panameño Mariano Rivera sólo pudieron mirar la acción después de quedar fuera por lesiones.

Los Yanquis batearon promedio de .188 en la postemporada y de.157 en la Serie de Campeonato de Liga. Nueva York transcurrió en silencio en el noveno episodio, con la multitud del Comerica Park cantando "¡Barrida!" ''¡Barrida!" mientras los últimos tres bateadores fueron dominados en orden.

Detroit superó en imparables a Nueva York por 16-2 en el juego final y por 46-22 en la serie.

Los Abridores de los Tigres tienen marca de 4-1 en esta postemporada con promedio de carreras limpias admitidas de 1.02.

Sin un título de Serie Mundial desde 1984, Detroit perdió ante Texas en la Serie de Campeonato de la Liga Americana del año pasado y después contrató a Fielder en la pausa entre temporadas.

La emoción de esa adquisición disminuyó un poco cuando los Tigres registraron un campaña con marca de 26-32 en la división central de la Liga Americana, pero superaron el desempeño de los Medias Blancas de Chicago en los últimos 10 días de la temporada regular ay ganaron la división con marca de 88-74, igualando a los Cardenales con el menor número de triunfos entre los 10 equipos que avanzaron a los playoffs.

En la postemporada su rotación de pitchers abridores ha sido impecable. Scherzer, Justin Verlander, el venezolano Aníbal Sánchez y Doug Fister permitieron únicamente dos carreras limpias a los Yanquis. Nueva York fue blanqueado en una ocasión y totalizó seis anotaciones en la serie.

"Increíble. Es la razón por la cual estamos aquí en este momento, por el pitcheo", señaló Cabrera; "¡Caramba!".

Scherzer recibió una carrera y dos imparables en cinco entradas y dos tercios en el último juego, ponchó a 10 y dio dos bases por bolas.

"Realmente tuve funcionando mi cambio de velocidad y mi slider", comentó Scherzer. "Cuando puedo combinar eso con mi bola rápida, eso es lo que me hace efectivo", señaló.

Los Yanquis no lograron ganar un juego de una serie de postemporada apenas por quinta vez. No habían sido barridos desde su Serie de Campeonato de la Liga Americana contra Kansas City en 1980.

Por los Yanquis, los dominicanos Robinson Canó de 4-0; y Eduardo Núñez de 3-1 con una carrera anotada.

Por los Tigres, los venezolanos Omar Infante de 5-2 con dos anotadas; Cabrera de 5-1 con una anotada y dos producidas; y Avisail García de 5-2 con una producida. El dominicano Peralta de 5-2 con dos anotadas y tres impulsadas.
