Luego de haber terminado la tercera ronda de la eliminatoria de la Concacaf, las selecciones de México, Costa Rica, Estados Unidos, Jamaica, Panamá y Honduras ganaron los seis boletos para poder jugar el hexagonal final, donde saldrán tres combinados con pase directo a Brasil 2014 y un medio boleto, que tendrá que jugar un repechaje contra un equipo de la Confederación de Oceanía.

En el Grupo 1 Estados Unidos quedó a la cabeza con 13 unidades, producto de cuatro victorias un empate y una derrota, en donde su entrenador, el alemán, Jurgen Klinsmann, luego de su calificación confió en que su equipo estará en Brasil: "Creo que llegaremos al Mundial, y si tenemos a todos nuestros jugadores será más fácil. Estamos en un gran momento".

El segundo boleto en este sector fue para Jamaica, que se coló de último momento al llegar a 10 puntos, mismas que Guatemala, pero con mejor diferencia de goles.

En el Grupo 2 la escuadra de México pasó invicta, luego de ganar sus seis partidos, por lo que su timonel José Manuel de la Torre se mostró satisfecho por este paso que dio su escuadra: "Nosotros nos hemos manejado desde el primer día con base en los objetivos que planteamos: el primero era calificar al hexagonal, pero también nos interesaba mucho el funcionamiento, seguir con esa intensidad, con esa exigencia que nos marcamos nosotros mismos para seguir mejorando".

Le secundó en este grupo Costa Rica al sumar 10 puntos, por lo que su estratega José Luis Pinto se mostró contento por su paso a la última etapa: "Hay momentos oportunos, momentos de tranquilidad y a veces con dificultades; pero valoro mucho la entrega y el posicionamiento táctico. Esperamos seguir mejorando de cara a la siguiente fase, que se perfila muy complicada".

En el Grupo 3 Honduras se agenció el primer lugar sorpresivamente en el último partido al llegar a 11 unidades, en donde el timonel colombiano dejó que su escuadra nunca bajara los brazos para alcanzar su objetivo: "Hemos dado ese primer paso importante, que fue conseguir el paso al hexagonal. La enseñanza que nos queda a todos es que esto es de perseverar. No se puede perder las ganas, los deseos. Nunca se puede perder la fe".

Mientras que en este tercer sector quedó Panamá, que buscará conseguir su boleto a un Mundial por vez primera en su historia, la última vez que el combinado panameño estuvo en un hexagonal final fue para ir a la Copa del Mundo de Alemania, pero para su mala suerte fue último lugar del mismo, situación que buscará revertir en este de la mano de su director técnico Julio Dely valdés.

Ahora el sorteo para la conformación del calendario de partidos de esta última fase se llevará a cabo en el mes de diciembre, por lo que todos los combinados volverán al terreno de juego en el 2013, año en el que se definirán a los equipos que estarán en el Mundial de Brasil 2014.
