ASUNCION, Paraguay (AP) — Un gol del defensor Pablo Aguilar le dio el martes a Paraguay una victoria 1-0 sobre Perú, aunque sigue hundido en el fondo de las eliminatorias sudamericanas para el Mundial de Brasil 2014.

El centro servido desde la derecha por Julio Dos Santos fue aprovechado a los 52 minutos por Aguilar, anotando de cabeza para romper una racha de derrotas de cinco partidos consecutivos del conjunto guaraní.

Paraguay sumó siete puntos, a uno del penúltimo Bolivia, que goleó 4-0 a Uruguay. Perú, con ocho unidades, sigue en el séptimo puesto.

El técnico de Paraguay Gerardo Pelusso resaltó que Perú "tiene la mejor delantera de las eliminatorias, en conjunto, con Jefferson Farfán, Juan Vargas, Paolo Guerrero y Claudio Pizarro. Entonces, nuestro mérito es grande. No fue fácil ganarle".

En el primer tiempo, Juan Vargas y Paolo Guerrero tomaron la iniciativa en el cuadro visitante llevando peligro, cada uno en acciones individuales, hasta el arco contrario pero no pudieron culminarlas.

La jugada de mayor peligro de Perú fue protagonizada a los 22 por Vargas. Superó en velocidad por el sector derecho a Miguel Samudio y el centro cruzado sobre el área de Paraguay no pudo ser conectado por sus compañeros en una situación en la que los defensores habían quedado atrás.

Los paraguayos, por su lado, presionados por su mala posición en la tabla, buscaron desordenadamente el gol ante una sólida defensa peruana.

Paraguay aprovechó el único descuido peruano para desnivelar en la jugada en la que Dos Santos y Aguilar se asociaron.

Andrés Castillo, quien había reemplazado a Paolo Guerrero a los 73, tuvo en sus pies la mejor ocasión para empatar cuando quedó solo frente a la portería paraguaya pero su remate salió desviado

Con la eliminatoria bastante avanzada, Paraguay parece ver imposible poder repetir otra presentación en un Mundial, donde no ha faltado desde Francia 1998.

Pelusso recalcó que Paraguay "se encuentra en una etapa de difícil transición buscando jugadores jóvenes".

"Es la realidad: los históricos dieron mucho, pero se viene el cambio. Empezamos a buscar jóvenes a nivel local, en clubes del exterior y en las divisiones menores", dijo el timonel. "El fin de un ciclo y el comienzo de otro son hechos normales en el fútbol".

El partido se disputó en el estadio Defensores del Chaco.
