La selección mexicana se volvió a cansar de fallar ante el marco rival, pero al final logró sacar la victoria sobre el conjunto de El Salvador por 2-0 en el Estadio Territorio Santos Modelo, y de esta manera, mantuvo su paso perfecto en esta tercera etapa de la eliminatoria de la Concacaf rumbo al Mundial de Brasil 2014, luego de ganar todos sus partidos.

El encuentro fue desde el inicio muy desigual, ya que no obstante de que el timonel mexicano José Manuel de la Torre hizo muchos movimientos en su once inicial, en comparación en su cotejo anterior, sus jugadores se vieron muy superiores a los salvadoreños; sin embargo, se cansaron de fallar ante el marco rival.

Desde el primer tiempo, México con base en buen toque tuvo sus primeros arribos de peligro, pero sus delanteros no tuvieron la precisión para poder concretar, pues tanto Aldo de Nigris como Oribe Peralta dejaron escapar oportunidades claras.

Por su parte, EL Salvador, al saberse eliminado de la eliminatoria, ofreció muy poco en el ataque, por lo que prácticamente dedicó a defenderse, destacando sin lugar a dudas la actuación del portero Dagoberto Portillo, quien fue el héroe de su escuadra al evitar que su portería en la primera mitad se fuera perforada.

Para la parte complementaria, México siguió siendo muy superior a su rival, pero sus atacantes siguieron con la pólvora mojada, dejando escapar llegadas al frente.

Al ver que sus futbolistas fallaban y fallaban, el timonel mexicano refrescó su delantera y mediocampo, lo cual le dio frutos rápidamente al minuto 64 al ponerle número a la pizarra, luego de que Reyna disparó al entrar al área, el portero rechazó y en el rebote Peralta mandó el esférico al fondo.

Con la anotación, México continuó presionando al rival y fue hasta el minuto 85 que consiguió ampliar su ventaja en los botines de Javier Hernández, quien aprovechó un tiro-centro de Elías Hernández por la banda derecha para rematar con la pierna al fondo de las redes.

Todavía México al final pudo conseguir el tercero, pero de nueva cuenta el portero Portillo logró lucirse al tener buenos lances, evitando de esta manera que su equipo fuera vapuleado, por lo que de este modo quedó sentenciado el marcador a favor del cuadro azteca.
