La selección de Honduras sacó su mejor futbol en este último partido eliminatorio de la tercera etapa de la Concacaf para Brasil 2014 y con un marcador escandaloso humilló en el estadio Olímpico Metropolitano a su similar de Canadá 8-1, consiguiendo su pase al hexagonal final de manera categórica.

Con la tremenda paliza, el equipo hondureño llegó a 11 unidades, que le sirvieron para encabezar el grupo 3 y obtener su pase, junto al cuadro de Panamá -que empató a un gol con Cuba y quedó con las mismas unidades, pero con menor diferencia de goles- a la última etapa de la eliminatoria; mientras que Canadá y Cuba quedaron fuera.

EL JUEGO

Desde que el balón empezó a rodar la escuadra catracha se fue encima de su rival y rápidamente pudo conseguir el primer gol al minuto 6' por medio del atacante Jerry Bengston, y de este manera marcar el rumbo del partido.

El conjunto local se fue con todo y el mismo Jerry Bengston al 16' logró ampliar la pizarra, y en los minutos 28 y 32 Carlo Costly y Mario Martínez, respectivamente, incrementaron la misma, mandando a su escuadra al descanso de la primera mitad con la ventaja de cuatro goles.

Para el segundo tiempo, prácticamente el equipo canadiense salió entregado, por lo que al 48' Honduras logró aumentar su marcador con un autogol de David Edgar, quien al tratar de romper el esférico lo mandó a su propia portería.

Honduras empezó a cascarear ante el poco futbol de sus oponentes, por lo que al minuto 61 Mario Martínez no tuvo problemas para conseguir el sexto de su escuadra mediante un golazo fuera del área grande con un zurdazo.

Con la sexta anotación, el equipo del director técnico colombiano Luis Fernando Suárez se relajó, lo que fue bien aprovechado por el cuadro canadiense para conseguir el gol de la honra, luego de un disapro de tiro libre del recién ingresado Iain Hume al 76'.

Con la anotación en contra, los hondureños volvieron a apretar el acelerador y al 82' Jerry Bengston anotó su tercer tanto del encuentro; sin embargo, no tardó mucho en llegar el gol que marcó las cifras definitivas, este cayó en un cabezazo al minuto 88 por Carlo Costly, quien con gran brinco superó a sus marcadores para mandar al fondo.
