Dos pinceladas del delantero Radamel Falcao fueron suficientes para que la selección de Colombia venciera 2-0 a su similar de Paraguay en el estadio Roberto Meléndez de la ciudad de Barranquilla, y de esta manera consiguió su tercera victoria consecutiva de la eliminatoria sudamericana, que lo pone momentáneamente en el liderato de esta zona.

Con el triunfo, el equipo del timonel argentino José Pékerman llegó a 16 unidades, mientras que el cuadro del uruguayo Gerardo Pelusso se sigue hundiendo de la tabla al quedarse en el fondo con solamente cuatro puntos, poniendo ya en peligro su calificación al Mundial de Brasil 2014.

El partido en el primer tiempo fue bien planteado por el cuadro guaraní, pues prácticamente dejó con la pólvora mojada a los delanteros colombianos, que por más que intentaron no lograron pasar a una ordenada defensa paraguaya.

Mientras que el conjunto visitante tuvo las mejores oportunidades en estos primeros 45 minutos, ya que gracias a disparos de larga distancia logró inquietar en varias ocasiones al portero cafetalero, siendo Víctor Ayala su hombre más peligroso.

Para la parte complementaria, el timonel de Colombia hizo un ajuste en el mediocampo y al 51 ya estaba arriba en el marcador mediante un golazo de Radamel Falcao, luego de que el jugador del Atlético de Madrid recibiera un pase de Magnelly Torres, en el que entró por el lado derecho, recortó a Paulo da Silva y con disparo de zurda mandó el balón a visitar las redes.

Con el gol en contra, Paraguay trató de reaccionar y al 69' en pelota parada el zaguero Pablo Aguilar se perdió el empate, luego de cruzar su cabezazo dentro del área, luego de un excelente córner cobrado por Víctor Ayala.

Pero esto fue todo lo que hizo la escuadra visitante, pues el equipo colombiano se adueñó del esférico y de las acciones, teniendo a Teófilo Gutiérrez, Pablo Armero y Radamel Falcao a sus mejores hombres, incluso al primero de ellos se le anuló un gol por un claro fuera de lugar.

Al final del partido y como si fuera la cereza en el pastel, Falcao coronó su gran tarde mediante otro golazo al 89', luego de que dentro del área grande se quitara a su marcador con un gran recorte y, ante la salida del portero y otro zaguero, solamente bombeó la esférica para mandarla a visitar las redes nuevamente y, de este modo, sentenciar el encuentro.
