En su juego de presentación en la Champions League, que se llevó a cabo en el estadio Old Trafford, el equipo inglés del Manchester United sufrió demasiado para derrotar apenas por la mínima diferencia a un aguerrido equipo turco de Galatasaray.

Con el triunfo, la escuadra de Alex Ferguson se ubicó en segundo lugar del Grupo H con 3 unidades, abajo del equipo rumano CFR Cluj-Napoca, que también tiene 3, luego de la sorpresiva derrota que le propinó de visitante al conjunto de Braga 2-0; mientras el fondo lo comparten el Galatasaray y el Braga con cero unidades.

EL JUEGO
A pesar de que la historia de este primer tiempo pudo haber cambiado en los primeros minutos a favor del conjunto turco, luego de un claro penal de Vidic sobre Umut Bulut, que no quiso marcar el silbante, el equipo de los Diablos se adueñó de las acciones desde el inicio y echó en su terreno de juego al rival.

La recompensa llegó al minuto 6 con la primera anotación del partido en los botines de Michael Carrick, quien en una gran pared con el japonés Kagawa enfrentó al portero uruguayo Fernando Muslera, a quien no tuvo problemas para vencer y mandar de zurda la pelota a las redes.

El gol despertó del letargo con el que comenzó el cuadro turco, por lo que equilibró el partido e incluso generó más peligro, siendo a los minutos 10, 30 y 38 donde pudo igualar la pizarra: en la primera Nourredine Amrabat estrelló el balón en el poste; la segunda, Eboue entró por el costado derecho solo y sacó disparo que se fue por un lado y, en la tercera, Altintop remató una diagonal desde el punto de córner que alcanzó a pegar en el poste.

Los minutos finales fueron mejor jugados por los visitantes, pues los pupilos del timonel Alex Ferguson perdieron profundidad y ya no pudieron inquietar al portero charrúa; sin embargo, el marcador ya no se movió.

El segundo tiempo comenzó a un buen ritmo, en la que ambas escuadras generaron rápidamente peligro, por el lado de los locales Kawawa estuvo cerca de aumentar la ventaja al 47', mientras que por los turcos Altintop sacó tiro de larga distancia que pasó cerca del poste derecho de De Gea.

ManU adelantó líneas y al 52' el silbante le marcó un penal a su favor luego de una falta sobre Rafael; sin embargo, el portugués Nani dudó mucho en tirarlo y al final le estrelló la pelota en la humanidad de Muslera, quien aguantó hasta el final.

La falla del Manchester alentó al cuadro turco para ir en busca del gol de la igualada, por lo que empezó a tener más tiempo la esférica y al 56' el mediocampista Selcuk Inan estuvo cerca de conseguirla, luego de cabecear un centro por derecha de Altintop, en la que el balón pasó rozando el segundo poste de De Gea.

A pesar del penal errado, el delantero lusitano Nani buscó por todos los medios revertir su falla que tuvo desde los once pasos, pues se convirtió en el hombre más peligroso e insistente en el marco enemigo de su escuadra, pero sin mucho tino.

Conforme continuó pasando el tiempo, el cuadro turco estuvo más cerca del empate que Manchester de aumentarla, lo más peligroso que tuvo fue un contragolpe llevado a cabo por Felipe Melo al 72', pero el portero De Gea en dos ocasiones salvó a su equipo, luego de tapar también el contrarremate de Colak.

Al final, Manchester con el ingreso de Javier Hernández y Danny Welbeck tuvo más tiempo el balón y más presencia en el marco rival, pero el marcador ya no se movió.
