El conjunto del Real Madrid debutó con el pie derecho en la Champions League, luego de conseguir en su estadio Santiago Bernabéu una angustiosa victoria de 3-2 sobre la escuadra inglesa del Manchester City, con dos goles en los últimos cinco minutos para darle la vuelta al marcador.

Este duelo significó el arranque del sector D del certamen continental, en el llamado 'Grupo de la Muerte', que complementan la escuadra alemana del Borussia Dortmund y el equipo holandés del Ajax.

EL JUEGO
Desde el comienzo del cotejo la escuadra merengue buscó imponer su localía, por lo que se adueñó de la esférica; sin embargo, tardó en llegar con peligro; fue hasta antes de los 20 minutos que lo hizo mediante un disparo de Arbeloa y un mano a mano entre Higuaín y Hart, que este último logró ganar, pero en el rebote Ronaldo y Khedira tuvieron chance de hacer daño.

El Manchester City no tuvo respuesta alguna, pues ante la buena marca madridista sus jugadores perdían fàcilmnete el balón; sin embargo, lo mejor que pudoeron hacer en estos primeros 45 minutos fue una jugada de Touré al 37, en la que se llevó el balón desde su terreno de juego y pasó para Silva en los límites del área grande, pero éste tardó y desperdicó un gran contragolpe.

Cuando parecía que la escuadra inglesa se animaba, Real Madrid reaccionó, por lo que al 39' Gonzalo Higuaín se perdió la más clara, luego de recibir un centro por derecha de Di María, en la que agarró la pelota de bolea en el área chica e increíblemente la mandó a las tribunas.

Todavía el equipo español logró generar peligro en los minutos finales de la primera parte por medio de sendos disparos de Di María, el más peligroso fue al minuto 41, en donde por la banda derecha sacó portente disparo de zurda que amenazó con incrustar la pelotaa en la parte inferior del segundo poste de Hart.

La parte complementaria comenzó del mismo modo que la primera, un insistente cuadro del Real Madrid en busca de su primera anotación, mientras que el equipo del Manchester City muy agazapado en su zona baja en espera de organizar un contragolpe.

La escuadra merengue se adueñó de las acciones y de la esférica, pero careció de idea para poder abrir el candado que impuso el cuadro inglés; sin embargo, dos disparos fuera del área grande del brasileño Marcelo (58' y 65') pusieron a temblar al arquero Hart, luego de que ambos pasaran muy cerca de su marco.

Sin embargo, cuando más dominaba el conjunto de Mourinho, en un contragolpe llevado a cabo por Touré y terminado por el recién ingresado Dzeko se abrió el marcador a favor de los visitantes al 67', en el que el delantero bosnio quedó solo frente a Casillas, a quien venció con tiro raso a contra pie.

Pero el gusto le duró poco al conjunto de Mancini, ya que la tercera fue la vencida para Marcelo, quien al 75' tomó la pelota en las afueras del área grande, recortó a un rival y con derecha mandó su riflazo que alcanzó a ser desviado por un rival, por lo que la pelota se fue al fondo de las redes.

Y cuando el gol de la volterereta rondaba el marco de Hart, al 85' Kolarov silenció el Santiago Bernabéu, luego de que en una falta por la banda derecha, el jugador serbio mandó tiro-centro de zurda de larga distancia, en la que Alonso se barrió y fintó a Casillas, quien ya no pudo evitar que la pelota se fuera al fondo.

Real Madrid con la anotación en contra no se desesperó, siguió insistiendo y en los minutos finales logró conseguir el empate y la voltereta al 87 y 89' con mucho carácter: en el primero Karim Benzema, a la altura de la media luna, de media vuelta mandó disparo colocado y, en el segundo, Cristiano Ronaldo con fuerte tiro cerró el marcador definitivo.
