El delantero mexicano Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández por vez primera logró jugar un partido completo en esta temporada en la Premier League y, a pesar de que falló un penal al inicio, logró recomponer el camino y contribuyó en la goleada (4-0) de su escuadra Manchester United sobre el Athletic Wigan.
El partido fue muy contrastante para el equipo de los Diablos, pues a pesar de que tuvo la oportunidad de irse arriba en el marcador al inicio del cotejo con el penal fallado por Javier Hernández, la primera parte fue completamente para el olvido, pues se topó con un equipo bien ordenado en su zona defensiva.
Sin embargo, el segundo tiempo fue muy diferente, pues la escuadra de Alex Ferguson salió con mayor disposición, por lo que rápidamente encontró el gol de la ventaja en los botines de su jugador veterano Paul Scholes al 50', luego de un pésimo rebote del portero Ali Al Habsi.
A partir de la anotación, Manchester United se hizo amo y señor de las acciones, y al 63' Javier Hernández tomó revancha de su penal errado y logró aumentar la ventaja de su equipo con su primer gol de la campaña, luego de desviar un disparo por el lado izquierdo de Buttner.
La escuadra visitante todavía no se reponía del segundo gol cuando ya tenía el tercero en contra, pues dos minutos después, Alexander Buttner en una gran jugada individual se metió al área por el lado izquierdo y con fuerte disparo venció al portero, que dejó su primer poste al descubierto y por donde entró la pelota.
Ya con el Wigan entregado, 'Chicharito' Hernández recuperó una pelota fuera del área grande por el lado izquierdo, donde se la cedió a la llegada del recién ingresado Nick Powell, quien recortó y con fuerte escopetazo mandó al fondo de las redes para sentenciar el marcador a favor de su equipo.
