El entrenador Alexander Yefimov, encargado de la preparación de la lanzadora de peso Nadezhda Ostapchuk admitió haber dopado a la atleta, a quien le fue retirada la medalla de oro de los Juegos Olímpicos Londres 2012.

Lo anterior fue informado por la Agencia Antidopaje de Bielorrusia que informó que Yefimov reconoció actuar sin el conocimiento de la deportista, quien dio positivo por metenolona.

“Estaba preocupado”, argumentó el entrenador en referencia a que el desempeño de la atleta no estaba siendo lo esperado a su llegada a la capital británica, por lo cual decidió poner la sustancia prohibida en la comida de Ostapchuk sin que ella lo supiera.

Debido a lo anterior el organismo bielorruso decidió sancionar un año a Nadezhda Ostapchuk por su ignorancia sobre el dopaje, mientras el entrenador será suspendido cuatro años.

La atleta bielorrusa perdió su título de campeona olímpica de la prueba de lanzamiento de peso, por lo que la neozelandesa Valerie Adams fue nombrada nueva poseedora de la medalla de oro olímpica.
