La final femenina del US Open la disputan este sábado la estadounidense Serena Williams y la bielorrusa Victoria Azarenka, un partido de gran expectativa entre las dos indiscutibles mejores jugadoras del momento.

La jornada de semifinales de mujeres disputadas en el estadio Arthur Ashe dejó como finalistas Azarenka quien inauguró la sesión derrotando a la tercera favorita, la rusa María Sharapova por 3-6, 6-2 y 6-4 mientras que Williams la tuvo más fácil al derrotar ampliamente a la italiana Sara Errani por 6-1, 6-2 en una hora 4 minutos.

Para Azarenka, la número 1 del ranking, esta es la primera final en el abierto estadounidense. La bielorrusa empezó perdiendo el primer set ante una bien entonada Sharapova quien lanzó tiros ganadores de gran factura e inclusive varios 'Aces' que hacían prever que terminaría imponiéndose.

Sin embargo, Azarenka de 23 años entró con determinación en el segundo parcial y empezó a trabajar su victoria en base a su mayor potencia, agresividad y buena defensa.

La bielorrusa con siete participaciones previas en el US Open y ganadora este año del Abierto de Australia terminó de esta forma con una racha ganadora de Sharapova, de 25 años, que había encajado 13 partidos en tres sets en la presente temporada.

Con su triunfo hoy Azarenka se pone adelante 6-4 en el balance de partidos ganados ante la rusa Sharapova que era la favorita a ser finalista luego de su gran performance en los últimos torneos y de haber ganado la última versión de Roland Garros y que ya ha saboreado las mieles de ser campeona en Nueva York al haber ganado la final del 2006.

A su turno, la ídolo local Serena Williams no tuvo problemas para superar a la italiana Sara Errani y décima preclasificada, por el contundente marcador de 6-1 y 6-2, muy parecido y en tiempo rápido como todos los partidos anteriores disputados en el actual US Open.

A este punto Williams ya debe sentirse ganadora y es la favorita del público para, de ganar, adjudicarse su cuarto cetro de campeona en el abierto estadounidense.

Serena Williams, clasificada número 4 no ha perdido un solo set en el torneo y los resultados obtenidos hablan por sí solos de la contundencia de la estadounidense: Ante la española María José Martínez ganó por un doble 6-1, luego frente a la rusa Ekaterina Makarova por 6-2, 6-4; ante la checa Andrea Hlavackova se impuso por 6-4, 6-0; a la serbia Ana Ivanovic lo propinó un doble 6-0 y hoy derrotó la italiana Sara Errani 6-1, 6-2.
