LA HABANA (AP) — Jerry Bengston abrió la cuenta a los 32 minutos y Honduras superó el viernes 3-0 a Cuba para conseguir su primer triunfo en la etapa semifinal de las eliminatorias de la CONCACAF rumbo al Mundial de 2014.

Víctor Bernárdez agregó un tanto a los 62 y Marvin Chávez redondeó el marcador a los 90.

Bengston aprovechó un error de recepción en la defensa cubana para encarar solo y fusilar al portero Odisnel Cooper.

Con esta ventaja, después de un comienzo bastante parejo, Honduras tomó las riendas e impuso su fútbol.

"La concentración y la paciencia fueron claves, además de desarrollar una buena táctica a pesar del sol que pegaba duro y de la cancha poco rápida", comentó el técnico de Honduras, Luis Suárez.

"Lo importante era ganar, el balance de este partido es bueno y ahora seguimos mirando para delante. Sabemos que el equipo está bien, supimos manejar la ansiedad de ganar hoy y vamos a seguir trabajando" agregó el timonel colombiano.

Honduras tiene cuatro puntos después de tres partidos en el Grupo C, mientras que Cuba está en el fondo de la tabla sin unidades.

Georgie Welcome estuvo a punto de aumentar la ventaja en tres oportunidades, pero los centroamericanos tuvieron que esperar el segundo tiempo cuando Bernárdez cobró una falta desde unos 30 metros y con un tiro potente sorprendió al arquero cubano.

Chávez sacó buen provecho cuando todo el equipo cubano se volcó al ataque a la búsqueda de un gol y con un rápido contragolpe burló a varios rivales antes de anotar el tercer gol hondureño.

"Para mi es maravilloso anotar el gol que le dio la confianza a mi equipo para lograr la victoria", expresó Bengston.

"Vinimos aquí para buscar los tres puntos y lo logramos, además ganamos confianza y eso es muy importante con vistas a los encuentros futuros, porque para nosotros ahora es que esto empieza", agregó el delantero.

Cuba estuvo errático en defensa y mostró poca imaginación en el manejo del balón, y menos a la hora de concretar las pocas veces que llegó al arco de Honduras.

Los cubanos visitarán a Honduras el martes por la cuarta fecha.
